Default Happy Friday! Engraved with MOP stocks

Hi: Happy Friday!
Today, I acquired an engraved .38 Special S&W Military & Police (Pre Model 10) snub nose revolver with gold bands and genuine Mother-of-Pearl stocks, manufactured in late 1948 or early 1949. It's the first engraved handgun in my modest collection. I'm thrilled to have it!

That's a beautiful gun! I've been looking for something like that but we don't see them very often around here. I doubt it's factory but you never know. It sort of looks like some of Phil Quigley's work but I suspect it's earlier before he really got started. But you never know. Also I think he signs his work.

Beautiful engraving tastefully done and the gold wire work really sets it off. You deserve to be very proud of that addition. Enjoy.

Smile Engraved M & P

Beautiful!
I carried the Model 15 while in the Air Force Reserves 1976 and 1977. And on occasion while on active duty from 1977 until I retired in 1997.
Loved it so much, I went out and bought one for myself. Just a standard Model 15-4, but have had it since Dec 1980 or Jan 1981. Had the original purchase from Curly's Pawn Shop, Rapid City, SD. According to what I found in the serial number lists, it was made in 1976. The year I got married, and still am.
I was the second owner as he shot one box of shells and thought it was to light. Traded t in for a 357. I picked it up a week later.
I've always wanted it engraved with something related to the Air Force, but I shoot it to much.
Now that it has a recent cylinder, it's not worth spending the money to fancy it up.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

Beautiful gun and great find. Congratulations !!!

To MSgt Dave. I had a friend (now deceased) who was stationed at WrightPat with the 2750th SP for a long time. He also loved the Model 15. His showed some honest wear. Somewhere he found some smooth K Magnas. He lettered "2750 SP" on one panel in clear fingernail polish and "USAF" on the other panel and lit both with a match. The result was black lettering against the light panels. They also made the smooth grips less slick in the hand. He also added a Tyler T-grip. The grips were unusual and drew lots of range comments. Just a thought to consider.

Be careful David - these engraved pieces are very, VERY addictive! And it just starts with the "first" one. I just had to post again, as that little guy is a beautiful addition to any collection - "modest" or expansive.

Thanks again for sharing and let us know if you see any engraver's marks that would give us a clue as to who did the work.

Great Pre-10, David! That time frame is a "C" serial number, right? Love the grips!

Thank you, Larry!
The genuine Mother-Of-Pearl stocks are beautifully iridescent and have zero chips or cracks.
Yes, the Serial# begins with the letter "C".
According to James J. Carter (contributor to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson), my Military & Police (Pre Model 10) was manufactured in late 1948 or early 1949.

HUZZAH !!! You sir, are the grand prize winner.

I will be very interested to hear about the history of this little beauty.
Perhaps even something about the owner(s) can be discovered?

A gun as beauteous as this one must certainly leave a trail behind.
