Without looking in the S&WCA book I'd guess around 1957-58. I'll look in the book when I find out where I put it.

How’s the action feel? I have a m28/6” and compared to my m27-2/6” the m28 trigger feels smoother.

Action is fantastic. Condition is excellent. The only thing off is a later non-diamond set of Magnas on it. It has been raining since I picked it up. As soon as the sun shines I will put some rounds down range. The guy also says he has the factory box somewhere. I hope he comes up with it.

If it is model marked in the yoke cut, it shipped no earlier than 1958. 1958 numbers started right around S182xxx, and no model marked guns left the factory in 1957.

No one can tell you when it was manufactured. Only ship dates are tracked in the shipping records.

All Model 28s (with no dash number) were four screw revolvers.

I have two m28 no dashes and one m28-2. Sweet revolvers. Dull finish or not there awesome. My first ❤️ is the 357 mags. Seems I’ve gone full circle from where I began.

You might be interested to know that the Model 28-1, the last of the four screws, is extremely rare. In fact, we know of only one in existence. If there are others, we haven't found them yet.

Welcome to the FORUM! Congratulations on your 28! I have a 6" S serial # from 1960. It was my 1st online gun purchase. It had Goodyears on it when I bought it. I have diamond targets for it, and diamond magnas for it. It does not get out much! Bob

I was fortunate enough yesterday to buy a 6" 28-2 from the same man who bought it new in 1974...He said it had been in storage since then, unfired, never dry-fired, unturned and never loaded...All in the original crisp box, the cleaning tools still in cellophane, all the papers never even unfolded...I paid even less for this one that I paid for its 4" brother which I bought unboxed, unpapered and definitely shot but after a thorough cleaning was in remarkably good shape...They now reside next to each other in my safe...

And no, I have no plans to shoot either one...Life is good......Ben

Could we see some pictures of that ANIB 28-2 in a separate thread, Ben?

You're going to love shooting that 4" model 28! Mine is S 1890** and I figure it's a '58, best I can tell. I wanted a 4" when this 6" came along, but I later found a 4" HP barrel and had it swapped out. To me, they are more balanced out & handle better as a 4".

I found some Altamont Coke grips to put on it and now it handles and feels even better. Mine had diamond magna grips on it when first obtained. After several attempt at getting the right grips, I think I'm settling here.

Congratulations on finding an S prefix, and maybe a box!
