Without information like boxes and pictures, I would guess you paid market prices. What matters is are you happy about the acquisitions? I've been known to not worry about overpaying by Benjamin or two if the gun is something I really want.

I can't wrap my head around a Highway Patrolman selling for $900. I must be way behind the times. Paid $190 for my last one.

That amount does not seem outlandish in today's market.

Percentage estimates can be pretty subjective. What a seller rates at 95%, a picky buyer may put closer to 85%. Having the original stocks means a lot to collectors so that affects price & value too. Any gun that old certainly may have been re-blued somewhere along the line. Or may have had its barrel shortened. That's why people are always asking for pictures, so they can better see how original / unaltered the HPs are.

If you're happy with the your purchase, it really doesn't matter what anyone else might think.

Probably a little high for around these parts, but if you're happy, who cares? I'd like to see some pictures as well. Love the Highway Patrolman/28 . . .

HP values seem to fluctuate quite a bit and really seem to be based highly depended on condition, maybe more so than other models.

I believe it may have to do with the fact they made ALOT of them and most of them were rode pretty hard so finding a really nice example can be tough.

Without seeing them I think you probably paid market for them but they are only going to continue to rise in price!

I would guess that the 5 screw and 4 screw examples would go for as much as $100 each more than their 3 screw counterparts, all else being equal. That would take some of the sting out of the price, for me at least.

I sold my last 28-3 6" for $800 and there were others at the same gunshow asking $950. I guess that's why mine sold so quick.

My wife scoffs when I tell her the value of my accumulation. She really doesn't realize what these things bring today.

My wife also used to roll her eye's when I mentioned the value of a lot of my S&W's. But within the last 1 1/2 - 2 years I have sold off about 45 of them and her mouth dropped several times when I made deposits in my "gun" savings account. The stock market is so high now I'm leery about buying any stocks, it will come down as we're due for a correction.

It will come down or inflation will skyrocket, one or the other.

I just bought a 28-2 online for $821. I guess it's a bit high for a Service Revolver, but it looks NIB, or darn near. I'm selling off my Hunting Rifles and replacing them with vintage High Condition S&W Revolvers. My next Purchase will be the nicest M27-2 that I can snag
