Pre 17 K-22 5 screw value
I saw a K-22 5- screw ca.1952 for sale locally for 675.00. It is a shooter grade gun with mostly holster wear, but looks all original. I don't own or know much about 5- screw guns. Do you think the price is about right? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Well it's not wearing the original stocks. But the nice thing is it is wearing some football cut out presentation stocks that are worth at least $200 all by themselves. You can probably find some original sharp shouldered Magnas for between $100 to $200 so that brings the price down some. Not that it's priced exorbitantly out of the ballpark but I'd be negotiating for something around or under $650.

I'd say the price is about right for where I shop, maybe a tad high given the wear but with those stocks I'd probably buy it at that price. The last ones I bought were $600/$700 and that was several years ago although perhaps in slightly better condition. Haggle a little but if you don't have one, buy it. They aren't going to get any less expensive.

Nice Gun! I have a weak spot for these!
I tried to edit the pic a little without changing the actual look of the gun.
The Grips look fantastic!
The Bluing looks a little Thin.
Overall, the price may be a little steep, depending on your local conditions.

Nice K22, but finish is below what you can find online for that price. You should be able to buy one in that condition with original serial numbered matching Magna stocks or even early Target stocks for under $600 with some searching online. Problem is you have to pay shipping and maybe FFL fees, so it is a wash in the end. If you do not do online purchases, your options are limited, and you have to determine how many more you will run across at your local gun shops?? Lastly, I would call that a K-22 Masterpiece, not Pre-model 17, because that is the official model name ad it is what those early target revolvers were - a masterpiece of design and manufacture!!!

Very nice gun! Oh, welcome from PA. I've got a 1950-shipped Masterpiece that was my dad's. Very nice shooter. Around here (PGH), the K22 Masterpieces, the few that I've seen in the shops, go for more than that. There's a shop that has one in way worse condition for, I believe, was over $1000. WAY too much for the condition. I'd buy that one you have for $650 every day, if I didn't own one! Either way, they are considered to be some of the best .22s made. The guys above are right, get some original-style wood for that & sell those ones on it. And shoot away! No empty can is safe with one of those guns.
Oh, and if you're patient, you can find a nicer one online. That's your choice only.

Those grips are nice, but not original. Also, the hammer appears (to me at least) to be from a later design; an early 50's K22 should have the "speed" or "fish hook" hammers. And given the finish, I'd pass on that one if priced over $600. Several things to hunker and haggle about on it. -S2
