Default Military Target Revolvers ( Formerly "quicktest")

This is a thread that I originally thought I would add to Caleb Browns thread, which is about a somewhat different fixed-rear-sight target revolver. However, the revolver in the pictures immediately following has a factory letter documenting its history, and so I decided to make this one a separate thread.

Here are three pictures of this revolver, which belongs to Red9, who made these pictures available.

The important paragraph of the factory letter, as well as other pictures of the gun, and some forum comments about the gun, are referenced in post #3 of this thread. There is a link there, to a much earlier post, that has all the information.

Regards, Mike Priwer

The gun is a Triple lock with rear sight similar to the rare factory sight variation called the Military Target for use in British matches in Bisley, England where only a drift adjustable rear sight was allowed.

Factory sight that letters as original and shipped to England below:

Only a letter will verify for sure if is a factory installation but it's not identical to those shown above: note the shape of the notch and rounded ends compared to yours.

These were special order only. The guns are usually chambered for an English cartridge such as the .455 Mark II (Webley).

Jim, et al

I was using this short thread as a test, to see if three links to images would open properly. I was then going to delete it, but didn't get around to it.

For S&WCA members, the following link, courtesy of Red9, has a lot of information about the gun, as well as a segment from the factory letter. I have some more information I can add later.

Triplelock Military Target?

For non-S&WCA members, here is the factory letter segment, as well as two other pictures of the gun.

Note: The letter implies that the caliber was .455, but Red9 comments that " I know that
the stocks and cylinder are not original but the barrel, which matches the butt number,
is .44. "

Regards, Mike

I want to add one further comment. The Red9 revolver is the first one that I'm aware of, that has a factory letter. I now know that there are other that would letter, as well.

That link works great- for SWCA members. People here that are not SWCA members are not able to read that data.

Can't you post the data here?

Good incentive to join!

It shows what I have been missing in that section of the forum.

If you mean merge the threads, that is not real workable. Merging them in the SWCA area won't do the public any good. Merging material from the SWCA into a public thread is contractually forbidden for me to do.
Most of the relevant data there belongs to you, so you can post it here. Even the data given to you by Roy on your specific gun can be considered to now belong to you, and can be shared here, but posting it here (or merging the thread) by me would violate the confidentiality contract.

Merging is also not real smooth technically, because the earlier thread in the SWCA area will then precede Mike's original post, creating a rather confusing mess.

Just add your data. A letter pic, along with your discussion with Roy, would add a lot.
