A year or so ago we celebrated out 100th year of one of the oldest continued business licenses in the state. We've been on our current location since 1924. Due to Covid we have basically suspended any non-member shooting, members still shoot a weekly .22 challenge...winner pays for coffee. The shotgunners are the guys that usually get the cool prizes, I have never gotten into that game. Muzzleloaders used to compete monthly for prizes, usually a can of peaches or during November a Turkey for best top shooters. We have F-Class shooters which also combine with the BPCR guys, its just for bragging rights...same with Cast Bullet shooters who compete on a quarterly basis. We have produced some Olympians over the years, there are archived pictures of events that went on during the depression and war as well. Its fun to look at the old boys, some still wearing WWI gear. I get a kick out of one guy dressed like a swell, suit and tie, derby hat holding what looks like a Beakhart revolver or maybe a single shot with extra long barrel. Some of the local guys that compete F-Class do walk away with neat prizes like a Shilen barrel of your choice, fancy optics, but they only do that when they travel to a large shoot, none of which are going on due to Covid.
Some of us are shooting on a daily basis, I shoot about three days a week. My buddy and I take turns providing a "fun" target shot at 25yds off hand with our muzzle loaders, anyone can participate. The prize is being "World Champion", can't get much more bragging rights than that.
