Default Added another 44 Outdoorsman

Picked this up as part of a trade yesterday. It's a pre-war 38/44 Outdoorsman that was converted by Hamilton Bowen into a 44spl with a long range, three position front sight blade. It also had a Registered Magnum hammer added at some point either prior to or for the conversion. All of it is dressed up with a great set of Keith Brown's magnas.

This is very similar to Doc44's 45 Colt converted Transition OD he posted about previously (Converted to 45 Colt (pic added))

Edited to add: The collector I got this from bought it out of Bill Powell’s estate.

Haven't shot it yet but the action is very smooth and light.

Wow! What on earth did you have to trade away, such that someone would give that up?

Thankfully he wasn’t overly attached to it. The other gun in the package was this Model 58. I traded a few I wasn’t overly attached to so it worked out pretty well.

That is OUTSTANDING!!! What a beauty. Makes me want to start collecting .44 Specials.

Also - "...another 44 Outdoorsman"

I'd love to see the other 44 Outdoorsman in your collection.

Thanks for sharing those fantastic photos of a one-of-a-kind beauty.

The originals were bored out for 44. All numbers match on the metal parts.

My first one was done by Alan Harton a couple years ago. It's also had the original barrel and cylinder bored out to 44. 44magget refinished the stocks for me. It shoots lights out.

Please forgive me, but I could cut up a good gun to get a 44 Outdoorsman! Beautiful work on both guns, is the Harton barrel remarked the same as your Bowen gun.

Affirm. He removed the 38 and replaced it with the .44. Not quite as deep as the original but it gets the job done.

In my opinion, that is about the best thing that could be done with a pre-war OD. I've got a 2nd Model and 1950 .44 Targets but a 3rd Model Target is nearly unobtainable. Hamilton's work is superlative and I'll bet the conversion cost less than an original(?) Too bad he can't get anyone to rebore barrels for him..

Bring that beastie up to Warrensburg and we can go the Lafayette gun club and shoot it at 200 yards!! :-)

I've got a lot of .44 Special cowboy loads for close work, too!

I think I will go tell my Outdoorsman "Nobody is going to ream you out, old buddy." and then shoot some good stout .38s.
