Default .455 Mark II 1st Model (Triple Lock)

I won this nice Hand Ejector a couple of weeks ago at Auction. It came with a .455 2nd Model in a 2 for the price of one auction. I will have another post on the 2nd Model. The triple lock is serial number 2934 with numerous British markings on the revolver. It is in excellent mechanical condition with my estimate of vey good appearance condition. One might rate the condition higher based upon its age.

The revolver is properly chambered and has not been converted.

Below are a couple of pictures.

Nice catch!

It has the Enfield acceptance stack on the left top of the frame, less common that the usual location at the shoulder above the stock panel. And it appears to have been commercial-proofed post-service at Birmingham.

Wink Great looking gun....

...any signs of a refinish? I don't mean to be a wet blanket but I've been stung in the past buying guns that were "too good to be true". Better to find out sooner and send it back.

Good Luck!

There is no evidence of a refinish. The markings, both S&W & British, are crisp and clear. The seem on the right quarter panel is even with no signs of polishing. The serial number stampings are all perfect to include the small stamping within the front interior of the ejector shroud. There is minor but sufficient handling wear and minor scratches to the finish to eliminate doubt.

The low resolution of the pictures makes it a bit challenging, but the British barrel proofs show clear signs of being struck on top of the finish, meaning no post-service refinish. The stocks‘ condition also matches the finish. So I‘d rate the likelihood of original fairly high.

That one and it's mate are truly nice and a good buy.

The condition of any gun is fixed, it can't be rated any different no matter the age. It is what it is. The older the gun with a great original finish can be valued more, but the condition doesn't change or improve because of age.

No, definitely not refinished and still in .455 Colt.

How do I know? I personally examined it at Morphy's on 30 November and chambered a .45 Colt round and observed it stuck out a third, which means it's still in .455 Webley.

I bid on this lot as well but was outbid.

It looks better than as sold as I see you took the stocks from the second model and placed them on the Triple Lock, which is the correct configuration for the Triple Lock.

lamarw,

Do the stocks now on this TL have a penciled # on back of right stock that matches the gun?

I wondered that myself. I suspect that these were originally on this revolver and were placed on the 2nd model at a later date.
