Default 44 Magnum Engraved 1st Year Gun!

Deep carbona bluing and engraving is magnificent in this, six and one-half inch example. Check out those stocks! I so wish it was S130927, but it is a an exceptionally fine example of artistry in arms that barely out does a 357 post war example The front sight is embellished in a fashion only seen in a few of Jarvis's cuts.

I always carry a 44 magnum now, JIC.

Side story: I feel for persons in the line of fire as a part of their position. A firearm discharged directly in front of you is very much different than standing behind the gun being fired.

Shot at point blank range!? Yep! Three times, but this one almost autographed my headstone.

It was a dark and stormy, August 2004, St. Cloud, MN night. You could smell the lightning and fallen maple leaves in the air. Little did we know that we were being tracked at a distance. We only had a few blocks to traverse from downtown, we’ve walked it countless times, in the daylight. But, the darkness did not belong to us. No. Nefarious creatures rule the sleepless nights. Then, there they were. End of the street. Guns drawn and shouting, “Give me your wallet, give me your purse!”

KEEEERRRRRPOW!

The first shot over our heads.
EEEK! Purse was thrown into the dark abyss. One bad guy went to recover the thrown hand bag.
The other approached, slowly, methodically, model 60 directed at the protagonist. “Give it to me, your wallet.”
It is one of those peculiar times in our lives, when we stand our ground.
I declined to hand over my confidential information and it almost cost me my life.

Because, POOOOOOOOOM!

The cartridge discharged its energy right past me. And how the individual missed, is beyond my comprehension. Amber was screaming, “OH, are you ok, ARE YOU SHOT???!!!” as the second and last gunman ran past me. Oddly, I was uninjured for the immediate distance. Events were unceremonious. We spent the next few days giving statements, reenactments, and testimony to the activities. No arrests were made, and we moved far, far north of the activities. BUT, I will never forget the whiz and kerpow of a 0.38 past my ear(s).

So, you refused to comply with an armed criminal and drew gunfire with your wife standing in the line of fire? I have resisted criminals but never with a loved one at risk.

Okay Dave, help us unenlightened 44 Magnum neophytes out a bit - what is the significance of S130927 - is that the first .44 Magnum?

I too very much like Jarvis' treatment on the front sight base - an additive touch to a Class A engraved gun.

Richard, 44 Magnum serial # S130927 was the first production 44 Magnum completed on December 15th, 1955. It was sold to Rex Firearms in early 1956. It is thought to have been subsequently engraved and gold inlaid by Alvin White. It’s disposition is currently unknown but would obviously be a great find! Below are some photos of the advertisement Rex Firearms ran in the May, 1956 issue of the American Rifleman. The 44 Magnum in the ad is thought to be S130927. The gun looks a little weird as they used a reverse image of the photo in the ad. The inlaid perched Eagle is actually on the side plate of the gun.

As I have posted, my Kokomo Buddy Carl discharged a Luger into his living room floor.
Just between his feet and my feet.
His wife who was sitting next to him on the couch provided follow up commentary, critique, name calling and suggestions for future activities.
Hey - it was only a 9mm !
