Smitz Special?
Recently gifted a nickel S prefix Hand Ejector, 4" .38 Special. Nickel is flaking and the bore is dark. Shot 50 rounds of 158 gr lead through it, without issue, including no apparent lead shaving. Lock up is tight, no noticeable end shake. Looks like it was bought, shot a little then lived in a drawer for 70 years or so. It's a 5 screw and barrel, butt and cylinder are serialized.
I'm thinking it might be a fun project to use it to build a Smitz Special, you know a fantasy faux Fitz Special. Put some Boone Trading Company American Ivory grips on it and only carry it to church on Sundays.....

Absolutely not. Fitzgerald could be excused for experimenting back in the day, but at this point "Fitzing" a gun is stupid butchery.

Well I personally would not do this to a beautiful gun like that
Better to take one that is damaged and do that if you must
Stay safe out there

Personally, I’ve never understood the allure of chopping a trigger guard, despite the history associated with Mr. Fitzgerald.
I hope you will reconsider.

It's a project gun. It's not worth much money. It's no different than the 100,000s of MForgeries out there.
It is not my favorite Smith or even my favorite K frame. That honor goes to the Model 66 I carried when I first started in LE just before the Wonder Nines Revelution

I favor thinning the trigger guard, like Bill Jordan used to do to his carry guns. This was done to the M19 Texas Ranger revolvers too. This makes it a bit easier to get your finger on the trigger.
You thin the guard on your strong side-if you are right handed, thin the right side of the guard-that's with the revolver pointed down range.

Thank you for your input. I’ve done that or had it on several guns including two ASP 9MM I owned over the years and a very custom PPK I wrote about in a Harris Publications Custom Combat Handguns annual years ago.
Nice to make your acquaintance even if you do root for the wrong university. That old cow college up on the Plains. 😉

BTW, he won't care if you yell War Eagle! or Roll Tide! longs as you got money.

For the love of God don't butcher that revolver! Ruins value, makes the gun ugly and unsafe. I have expressed my opinion of Fitz in the past and have been threatened with expulsion for doing so.
