Welcome from SE Michigan. Did you get lucky. Yes indeed you got lucky!
A very scarce revolver to find, especially in that condition.
That's a pre model 21.

Welcome to the Forum, and yes I'd say very lucky. That gun is beautiful, only some 1200 made of the pre-21s if I remember correctly. Here is a four inch SN S142674 which went to John Jovino's shop in NYC in 1955. Unfortunately this one was refinished outside the factory, have often wondered if it was nickeled by Jovino's shop.

The only improvement would be THE box and all the fixins......
Welcome to the family of fellow addicts, it’s an awfully slick slope to the bottom, better grab ahold of something. I’m fairly certain none of us want cured, we just keep chasing the never ending
“1 more”😂
What else did it come with?

Great looking revolver! And welcome to the forum.
I have a Model 1950 Army (45 ACP) and enjoy it. I am sure you will enjoy the 44 Special. And keep the Model 624.

I'd say you got lucky, too. I love that satin blue finish.
Beautiful, and in a great caliber.

Welcome! Yeah, you done good! Enjoy!
Mine's a little older, serial S142499, shipped 3/7/55, with serial number matching box. Not sure about the tools and Helpful Hints document but assume everything is original.

Lucky is an understatement. Wow! I think that’s the nicest one I’ve seen posted here, or at least in a very long time. That gun is only a shooter if its owner cares nothing about the preservation of historical firearms in excellent + / new condition. Just my opinion, though.

A little turn line, a couple marks on the recoil shield. It's a fantastic find but I'd see no reason not to shoot it a little. I'd certainly treat it with respect and wouldn't "shoot the snot out of it" as the saying here goes. Use it as it was intended.

Thank you all for the welcome.
I got it at an auction. I was not sure it was original as I was unable to have it in hand till buying it. There was a Target model in the box that looked nice too but it went more than I was willing to go. I am debating whether or not I shoot it. If I don't, I might as well sell it. I don't have any unfired firearms. Such a dilemma!

Your acquisition of that is interesting because the 1950 44 Targets, pre 24s, are much more common than your pre 21. You made the right choice.
I wouldn't think of selling it too quickly as you'll always come up with more money for other guns but once you let it go, it's gone for good.

No reason to start any bad habits now , like owning and not shooting or selling . If that lived at my house it would be parked in a flower carved Lawrence rig waiting to hit the woods with me every day after work and everyday all day after I retire . If you are a shooter act like one and shoot your good luck and let the collectors worry about collecting . I shoot all of mine and there has never been one made that's too good or too rare for me to enjoy . That is what they are made for .
PS: Congratulations , thst is one sweet piece of plunder .

Welcome again to the forum! You have made a great entrance with a wonderful 1st post. Maybe I can help you out with my thinking as to the shooting or not shooting of guns. My philosphy is that you absolutely have to experience each of the guns you buy. A function check at the range is a must at least once on rare or very high condition gun. Then if you can buy a duplicate or similar gun in a condition that is not so high for regular sessions or carry. Heck it would not hurt to take pristine examples out once a year to carefully shoot and enjoy then if you can buy more examples that are in shooter grade condition. After a few years you should have enough shooters that the very rare or high condition guns can stay at home for cleanings and fondling only.I myself am to the point where I have either shooter grade duplicates or I just take my S&W's from the 70's and early 80's to shoot mostly. Just my way of thinking on subject, do as you will and enjoy.
