22 Revolver ID
My father in law recently passed and my mother in law found his old revolver. I know nothing of the history and I am having difficulty identifying it. I am posting with pics, any help would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I am new here and far from an expert. Apologies if I did this wrong!

Looks like a pre MDL 18 but the stocks dont match the time frame far as I can see. Someone was a target shooter for sure and had hands too big for the factory stocks. Looks to have a trigger shoe as well. Might have her be on the look out for original stocks, they might be tucked around somewhere.  A nice piece for sure. Wish I had it. Good find and a great gift. I'd guess early 50's, but others more knowledgeable will chime in for sure.

Welcome to the forum you have a Combat Masterpiece yours most likely shipped between 1948 and 1954 others more knowledgeable than I will be along shortly to nail it down closer the grips are from a later period.

Serial Number on the barrel points to 1953 as year of manufacture according to The Standard Catalog of S&W.

Mine of the type is one of my favorites.
Later model target grips are nice, but I would find the right size Allen wrench and remove the trigger shoe, which is not a Smith and Wesson part.

Agree with the above comments. That is a very nice condition .22 from around 1953. S&W did not ship in serial number order, so the only way to really know the shipping date is to purchase a letter. If you are interested in that kind of detail. Those guns are very nice shooting guns, and yours has not been fired very much it seems. But, you can put a lot of rounds through them and they will still be very nice.
You did not ask value, so I assume that you will be keeping it. Just for reference, I bought one with serial number of K202500 a few months back with the original box for more than $800. I probably paid too much, but it was there and I wanted one!!
