Default "New" Pre 24

Just picked this up today from an add in a local classified. I've always wanted one these in .44 Special for some reason. It's an used but not abused gun which I'm fine with since I like shooting them. It looks like someone whittled the original patridge sight into a ramped sight which doesn't bother me too much. Maybe I'll look for the proper replacement. It came with the box and on the bottom of the box the serial is penciled in in white. I don't know if that is correct or something added over time. Very Happy to scratch another one off the list.

Woo, that's nice. So far I've had to settle for a 24-3, but that's not too bad of a compromise.

Very nice, one of my favorite models.

Yes, typical of the factory to mark them on the bottom that way.

Reminds me of the first pre-model 26 I bought at a gun show in Fort Worth maybe 25 years ago. An older gentleman had a table and I admired his pre-26 as I'd hoped to find one for some time. We made a deal and he apologized that the stocks were not correct. They looked fine to me but I didn't know what they were and had no idea what should have come on the gun. Later discovered what "cokes" are and that those "wrong ones" were indeed "cokes." They're now on a pre-29 and the pre-26 has some non-relieved targets. . . .which may not be correct either but are also pretty nice.

Nice looking .44.

Back in 1976, I had a M27-2 converted to .44 Special, using a 6 1/2" factory target barrel. As I was using it was a duty gun, that Patridge front sight was eating up the inside of my holster. I took a file to it and made it into a ramp.

Several years ago I guy had one he had taken in trade at a gun show. He was a single action Colt guy mostly and really didn't know much about the gun. He offered it to me for $600 and it also had Cokes on it. No box or docs. I had it for a short time and it was in really nice shape but for what appeared to be a spot of corrosion on the edge of the side plate next to the hammer. For some stupid reason I decided that I could not live with it and sold it to I believe a forum member.
When selling it someone mentioned taking the Cokes off and at the time it didn't register that they were not originally one the gun. I sold it complete with the Cokes for $900. That man got a heck of a deal since Cokes at that time were probably about $350. I should have kept it and now wish that I had. I do have a 4" Brite Blue one though!
