Default Strange Markings Inside K-22 Stocks?

Of course when I bought the K-22 I looked at the inside of the right panel for the SN. It is there, but look what else I found. This is a first for me. Can someone tell my what the heck this is about?

I’ve never seen both panels stamped and I don’t remember ever seeing a stamped letter prefix like that. It is strange...

Are they a perfect fit to the gun? Could have been a someone new to the job or someone outside of the factory could have added the markings. Just guessing...

Looks like someone over stamped the original numbers, and added some new ones. Not very subtle.

Does the serial number on the bottom of the butt start with a K? If so maybe someone thought it would be proper to stamp the whole serial number on the grips.

Both of the 'K's aren't the same. Different stamps. The numbers don't line up the same on each stamping.

Interesting.

Some genius thought he would make those grips "original" by numbering them to the gun. Your new K-22 in the 73000 range would have come with sharp shouldered magnas. Those are later. If the original number on those grips is 6 digits beginning with a 3, they are several years later, like about 1958.

It looks as though the right panel numbers were originally in two lines. Hmmm.

Yep. Non-sharp shoulder like my 1958 pre-17 (K 283750). The 1952 I have are correct (SS).

Beautiful gun w/original box...wrong grips!
