Bought another S&W last Night.
Selling a bunch of un-needed reloading items and 22 ammo to a fellow up near Red Lodge and he brought out an older S&W 6 inch revolver. Asked if I was interested. Looked it over and looked at the price tag he had put on it as he was gonna take it to a gun show to sell. He had 450 on it which I thought was ok. Since he had purchased way more than that price I offered him 300. We agreed to 325. It is an older M&P I guess but it is in 32-20. Not adjustable sighted like the one I bought last September but in pretty good condition with, I think, the original stocks. It needs a good cleaning but posting a couple untouched pics. Gun is tight and mechanically great...finish is a bit challenged but for the price I did well and he gave me a box of ammo LOL. He had a nice pre war Savage 99 in 300 Savage but at 750 more than I wanted to spend. After, I met daughter and grandaughter and took 'em out for din din. Talked daughter into making me another French Apple pie. YUM and Yippee oh...serial number is 12215X. Anyone have an approx ship date? This example is marked 32-20 not 32 WCF like my other one

I show two in the 122xxx range. One shipped in October, 1924, and the other a year later (October, 1925). So, mid-1920s is the best I can suggest for a possible ship date.
The caliber legend changed from 32 WCF to 32-20 in about May, 1922. That was the second change, the first being from 32 Winchester to 32 WCF in about 1913-14.
The stocks should look like this:

Thanks for the info. The first one I bought in Sept was marked 32 Win adj sights and supposedly dated to 1908. This is marked 32-20. The stocks are exactly like the ones pictured. I removred them and the right one has the serial printed on it in pencil I think. Hard to read on the dark walnut... the only real negative on this one it there is a little roughness to the bore..but I haven't done anythng to clean it up yet. Only reason I bought it was the price waas right and the fact that I sold him a whole lot of reloading items and 22 ammo I didn't need...and with the prices of that stuff in these days the price was a bit higher than they cost me..Small profit but he was happy as was I. He told me it had been his grandfather's gun...but stories are just that...stories. The fellow seems to like fantastic plastics I think. If I had sold him enough to cover the cost of the Savage I would have bought it too. I am a steel and walnut kinda guy

I've been in three shops in the last two days. Ammo? What ammo?
And he gave you a box? You are a silver-tongued devil.
That's a dandy. Congrats.

I went into Cabela's the other day and they had AMMO..lots of it...if you wanted 26 Nosler or a few boxes of 218 Bee and one(1) box of 375 H&H the 218 Bee was 87 bucks for 50 75 for the 375 and 58 bucks for the 26 Nosler...Hey... he no longer had any use for the ammo...and you accuse ME of being a silver tounged devil?? Why the whole population of Atlantic City probably comes up the mountain to dig you out after snow just so you can go down and entertain them. ...otherwise Thanks my friend...did you shoot any of that 500 S&W ammo yet?? You could use it like the gummit does with the mountain howitzers to avert an avalanche

Haven't shot any of it yet. I've been too busy clearing snow and chopping firewood. Besides, grabbing a piece of cold steel when it's below zero does not sound like a good time.
By the way, I've been keeping my own self plowed out so I can go down and entertain the folks, thank you very much.
If it keeps snowing there might be enough snow on the hill behind my place to cause an avalanche, though.

Don't know how you folks keep snow on the ground at all with the winds you have there.

We don't.
We donate most of our moisture to Nebraska so they can grow all that corn.

Rode my bike through your state a couple of times. Almost died several times but the road between Greybull and Cody was the only place i was POSITIVE I was gonna die. 30 miles at about a 45 degree angle.

I was in Wal-Mart today. ONE box of ammo on the shelves. 8mm Remington Magnum @ $89.00!

It can get a bit breezy through that area. But there are a couple areas worse than that...the Cody Belfry Highway is one...All the rocks out in the fields even the 30 pounders were blown there by the winds off the mountains...fell to earth there when the wind speeds got down below hurricane strength LOL Livingston Mt gets a bit rambunctious at times too. and per a previous post I saw a 25 foot camper trailer take flight with the P/U attached up near Billings...It did not turn out well for the owners. Made kindling out of the camper...totalled the P/U
BTW I get the pie tomorrow
I might even take that S&W out and shoot that there free ammo...after the pie of course....and give my daughter the one box of 5.7 x 28 ammo I found her.

Idaho can get breezy too. I think that's why they grow potatoes. Any above ground crops just blow away.

My 1905 4th Change .32-20
I picked up this .32-20 on GB a couple years ago, s/n 118705 for $475 (inc. s&h). I had assumed it was shipped mid-1920s, but from the posts in this thread it may be a little earlier (shortly after the change to ".32-20" in 1922?). You did well for $325. Fun revolvers to shoot, and you can get .32-20 Cowboy Ammo loads that won't punish the old girl.
