A Fun 8 3/8" .357 Magnum (Pre-27) with a Unique Box
This pre-27 shipped in June 1957 and came to me in an interesting gray box that numbers to the gun. It sports a McGivern gold bead (added by gunsmith Nelson Ford, who also gave it an action job) and a set of Keith Brown Ropers. With all of the recent modifications, it is a modernized classic, a target shooters' delight, and in my opinion, pretty easy on the eyes...
At one point I thought my love for these long-tube .357 Magnums would abate or pass, but it continues to be one of my strongest obsessions...
I'm always interested in seeing any long-tube .357 that you are willing to share.
Thanks for letting me share,

I bought this 27-2 8 3/8" in early to mid 70s. The presentation box blue lining bit the dust. I relined and didn't do the best job in the world.

Richard: could I see a photo of that gun in that box? Is a S&W shoehorn required?

Randy:
Even with the S&W shoehorn, it does not fit with the target grips. It does fit with a set of magnas on it - but it is still pretty tight. The gray box is slightly longer (about 1/2") and slightly narrower (about 1/4") than the traditional 8 3/8" Gold Box.

I just picked up this 27-2 yesterday. This is my first long barrel revolver and look forward to trying it out. Pictured with another 27-2. Seems to me, these can be had for bargain prices compared to other lengths. They're beautiful revolvers.
BTW, love the Mcgivern sight on your revolver.

Long tube RM
My favorite is this early 8 3/4" Registered Mag., Reg.#260. Also have an early 8 3/8" M57. Haven't shot that one in 20 years.

Jay:
Those are my two favorite .357 Magnum barrel lengths - the short 3.5"er and the long 8 3/8"er. Yours are very nice.
Thanks for sharing,

Forty years ago when I wanted to compete in N.R.A. Hunter Handgun Silouhette, I thought this M27-2 and Bushnell scope would be just the ticket. It was ... I won the first match I entered
Please forgive the lousy pic...It's all I have

Great Guns, Gentlemen. Thanks for sharing. Do any of you have any thoughts on the box? Have you seen others of this era that have shipped in the gray box? I know the early Highway Patrolman revolvers shipped in a grey box, that was end labeled for the HP, but this is the only pre-27 that I have seen in this kind of box.
Thanks for your thoughts,

Model 27-3 8 3/8
Traded for it last summer (2020), and have not fired it. Stone mint, negligible turn line. It has not been fired much..serial # is a very high N 9xxxxx Last of the N prefixes?

I only have one right now, but I'm always looking for another, specifically a nickel Pre 27
This one shipped January, 1956 - about 2,000 numbers lower than yours

Bill, that gun deserves better than thumbnails. Is Jarvis the engraver?
