Pre-WW1 M&P w/ Mother of Pearl Grips
I recently bought a Nickel 5 inch M&P (SN: 119xxx) that came with Mother of Pearl grips without a medallion. The seller told me the grips were factory and although they are quite worn, I was pretty sure they were aftermarket. It wasn't a deal breaker, so I bought the gun. QUESTION: Did S&W sell guns and/or MOP grips from the factory without medallions?

Not in the times your revolver was made, but the factory had non-medallion MOP available throughput the late 1800s.. If I remember correctly, the factory started inserting medallions in ivory and pearl stocks around 1893.

I own a revolver contemporary to yours with the same type of mother of pearl grips and have wondered the same question.

Well the dog was certainly interested!!! Great old workhorse, and looks like originally nickel plated. I bet it shoots as well as a new one, since these old M&Ps seem to never wear out. Thanks for sharing your photo.

There is a S&W catalog from early 1950's (IIRC) that either showed or stated the availability of non medallion S&W factory pearl grips. I'll see if I can find the thread.
Not in the OP's time frame, but they were offered later.
I can't remember who posted this originally, but thanks to them.
