Default Ain’t purty Triple Lock...

I wouldn’t call it ugly, but the recent thread about the ugliest Registered Magnum inspired me to post my not too pretty Triple Lock revolver. It’s the only revolver I presently own that lacks original finish, but I keep it as it contains an original 4” barrel and a nickel finish, although some parts have been chromed. I could call it the ugliest Triple Lock out there, except I’ve seen worse.

Like I said, this is an extreme outlier when it comes to my collecting tastes...

If that one is embarrassing the rest of your herd, I will be happy to send you my mailing address for off-site storage. A 4" TL in any clothing is still a 4" TL.

Looked at myself in the mirror this morning.
I look worse than your TL, and it is almost twice my age.
I like it

There’s something about a gun like that that makes it desirable for the secrets it holds. I think mine might have a bit more patina than yours.

Sorry, but that may be over using the word patina. But a very cool revolver.

Yep, it's ugly. Don't tell the gun that though as you don't want to hurt its feelings.

Looked like this when I bought it. The flip side is much better.

Wow series guy! Had somebody left it laying in a mud puddle? I'd say you did a pretty fine job of rescuing that sad orphan. How is it mechanically?

You might be surprised how well that would clean up with some Mother's or Flitz. It may not be as "finish challenged" as your TL, but this little 32HE cleaned up better than I would have ever expected it to.

My crusty, trusty Triple Lock. Started life nickel and was renickeled at some point. Still shoots like a champ!

Thanks. I completely disassembled it, washed it in a TSP solution, then hit it with some Mother's Mag Polish and a felt wheel in my Dremel tool. Then coated it with Renwax. I was pretty surprised how well it polished out too. The polished steel is practically indistinguishable from the nickel.

Mine looked like this when I bought it through an online auction. It was stored in a sheepskin lined leather gun rug which was included. I cleaned it with a wire wheel on a Dremel to get the rust out of the deep pits. Amazingly all the side plate screws turned with no issue but I never removed the side plate. I use Ballistol on my guns and no further rust has emerged on this gun. It functions and shoots as well as a new gun. The last two photos are from 5 minutes ago.

Cool pics fellas, I like these old guns that look like hell but still tuff as nails and going strong. They have character, and you know there is probably a story behind every one of them. My half brother has and old nine shot High Standard .22 revolver that was his dads, it aint got a bit of the nickle finish left on it and the grips are cracked but she will still head pop a squirrel.

Here's my old TL that shipped to New Orleans and then spent a lot of time in Corpus Christi. It shipped with nickel finish and was then Chrome plated and treated to a pair of carved ivory grips later in life. The old TL found its way to Arizona where I first saw it. It was then bought and taken to Idaho where the owner lettered the gun. It finally found its way to the S&W Symposium in Reno with a member from Oregon. I recognized it immediately and finally bought it.
