Detroit PD 2" M&P
Picked this up from a friends estate. The no dash 57 he carried. The M&P was his fathers when he was the chief of Romulus MI.
I will get better pics later. Is there a resource with information on the Detroit M&Ps and 10s?

Good to see another one pop up. Mine is S950990 and shipped in Oct 1947. There are a couple Detroit PD threads that’ll pop up in the search function.

I have searched through the forum and had found that thread. Really neat guns. I was curious if anyone had compiled any info on the different order dates and number of guns in the orders and that type info. I am sure hoping for an actual issue info would be a little out there. Anyway I am proud to have it in my small collection.

You might consider asking for a factory letter on your Detroit snubby. In it Dr. Jinks might include the number of models in the shipment yours was in.
After you receive your letter, you may also write the S&W Historical Foundation to see if they have other records related to your M&P.
Go to "Factory Letter" at the top right tool bar on this link:

A letter is the best way to go. In the meanwhile, I do show some going to the Detroit PD in October and November, 1947. They are in the S950xxx, S951xxx and S954xxx ranges. There may be some other ranges that have not yet been captured in my data, but that's what I have at this point.

The other gun is a 57 not 58. It was a purchased by my friend and was not an agency gun.

Here's mine. Slightly later shipped in Feb. 1948, in original nickel finish and with a "C" prefix serial. It was kept in retirement my Lt. Bagdaj of the waterfront division. Holster was his, but the badges weren't but are contemporary.
