Picking Up A No Dash 29 Wednesday 🙂
This was on our local gun sale board last week listed for $1300 I made an offer of $1100 which I felt was fair he declined. He texted today to ask if I was still interested...S prefix not sure of the serial number. I think I did ok on price based on Gun Broker sold prices either way I am excited. Here are the sellers pictures. Tell me what you think.

I think you did just fine. Pretty hard to find any decent N frame under $1k these days. A no dash 29 for $1100 would be pretty hard to turn down. I don't think the stocks are correct but they're nice anyway. Enjoy.

Looks in great shape. Stocks definitely not original.

I thought that too. What time period would that style fall into ? The end of the diamond era mid 60's ?

I was wondering that. What time period do you think?
End of the diamond around the screw era mid 1960's?

It might have come with cokes, give us an SN and someone here can probably confirm what it would have worn. I have a 29-2 S299716 which has diamond targets and is probably 1967/68. The -1 started in 1962 at around S220000 according to the Standard Catalog. I'm guessing cokes would have been on it when it shipped. I'd be inclined to letter it.

Yea I thought so too. It seems I remember a tread on here talking about some experimental grips that S&W tried out.The other thought is someone modified a regular pair of targets to suit their own taste. I have made some grips, and doing such a modification would be easy. I will actually be picking up the gun tomorrow so perhaps a closer look will reveal what they are...

I will provide the serial number when I pick it up he wasn't sure of the number other than that it was a S prefix he listed the serial as S1350xxx which cannot be correct for any model 29 no dash...

Those style stocks were usually for a presentation or commemorative gun but I don't remember seeing any with the diamonds.
My memory is not what it use to be so someone may prove me wrong.
Congrats on getting the M29.

The stocks look like aftermarket ebay stocks from here. Not factory from any era.
Gun looks good and honest from what I can tell. Get some pics of the grip frame area when you have it in hand. Nice catch.

Picked up the 29 today the bluing is still quite nice with just a bit of muzzle wear. The grips will be changed to a better set when I can locate them probably won't be original Cokes though. The serial number is S185xxx so according to the SCSW would put it in the 1958-59 period. Pictures really don't do it justice. Overall a nice shooter grade Smith. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning lol.

That is a beauty. Thank you for sharing and hope it meets your entire satisfaction for cosmetics, mechanics - and even accuracy if you try it!
Must say the stocks don’t look bad at all from here (as they appear not-too-bulky front to back), even though after market. Congratulations!
