That is a simple question, the only .32 HE with the serial number on the front grip strap is the Regulation Police model. Others will be along with a production year estimate.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Yes, a .32 Regulation Police from around 1923. ( Edit: Did a search and .32 Regulation Police serial 357466 was shipped in January 1922)) In addition to the front strap located serial, it has a rebated grip frame that the round to square butt extension grips mate with. The grips should also have a June 5, 1917 patent date (IIRC) stamped on the bottom of one of the panels. That patent is for the grip design. 1917 is the year the .32 and .38 RP's were introduced. These are fun guns to shoot. Here is my grandfather's .32 RP:

Just a note for Guy, those faux stags that you donated for my Reg Pol project gun are still resting comfortably on it...The gun is still a work in progress, having had its barrel shortened to 2.25" and being nickel plated all by the craftsmen at Alan Aronstein's High Standard factory in Houston...The front sight was purposely left off as this gun is a tribute to George Patton's idea of a New Orleans pimp's belly gun...I'm still on the hunt for a set of genuine mother of pearl grips for it, although my hopes are dimming...
If and when the hunt for MOP's is fruitful, you are welcome to have them back on your grandad's gun... ...Ben

Ben, I'm glad they're still of use to you. No rush to return them.
I frame HE pearls should fit, but the rebated backstrap will leave a gap on the lower 1/3 of the backstrap. You could file them to fit, but it is hazardous to do that. I would fit a plastic spacer to fill the gap instead.

I thought of that Guy, and it's always an alternative...When Tombstone Grips re-opens (soon I hope) I plan to just order a set of plastic pearls from him... ...Ben

Thanks - Based on my actual # I'd say mine shipped in the same month.

Maybe. S&W didn't ship in serial number order. Your gun could have shipped before or months or even years later. The only way to know for sure is to ask the Historian Emeritus (you have to join the S&W Collectors Association for $60) or pay $100 for an Historian's Letter of Authenticity from the S&W Historical Foundation. Otherwise, January 1922 is our best guess.
