You Just Never Know
The last couple of gun shows I went to amazed me with the high prices for guns and ammo. In fact last Saturday I started to just stay at home instead of going to a small one at the Trussville civic center. It was only the second time I've seen them have one there and I didn't get to go to the first one. So with nothing else to do I thought why not. It was small but had the same high prices.
When I figure I will not be buying a gun I start looking at other stuff because I like all kinds of different things.
At one of the last tables I looked at there was a pair of diamond targets that looked like someone had dropped them in a bucket of varnish, took them out and let them dry. The guy said they were K frame and I thought the same. As I'm looking at them I notice a larger than normal checkering pattern (you know where this is going). Hmm, the often debated K frame Cokes maybe.
Asked how much and when he told me an amount less than a good meal I said I would take them even though they had problems and needed refinishing. They had some wood missing on the front bottom corner of the left panel, someone had sanded the bottom of the right panel so they were not even and the pin holes on the inside of both panels were wallowed out.
To make a long story short they are N frame and I've already soaked them in acetone, lightly sanded them, filled and drilled the pin holes and applied a finish. They will be my shooter Cokes and for now they are on one of my favorite shooters, my M28-2 that has been nickeled.
So the next time someone thinks there is no use going to a show, well you just never know.

Nice score & great work.
I was at a local Pawn shop recently and found some Target's marked "K Frame, model 66" for $35. The shop owner assured me they wouldn't fit the 29-2 I had just purchased from him a week prior (which came with Pachs), as these were for a K frame.
He was wrong.
A little knowledge is a wonderful thing.

Those look great, but I do wish you had some "before" pictures so that we can see what you saw worth wasting $20 on.

Bought a K frame revolver at a gun shop and noticed the grips didn't seem to fit right. When i got home, i really looked at them and viola, they were N frame Cokes and in very nice condition to boot.

That was just pure excitement.
I should have taken before pictures but I already had them soaking in acetone before I thought of it.

I've been jonesin' lately for a good bar fish sandwich, and this past Friday I was in a local joint and bought one beer and a fish sandwich w/fries to go. Just barely hit under $20, not counting the tip.
That gun really pops; nice finish on the grips and the gun.

I used a little early American Minwax stain and then sprayed them with a clear enamel from Ace hardware. They were a little too glossy so I rubbed them lightly with OOOO steel wool and then applied a coat of Renaissance wax.
I used the stain because after soaking in acetone and lightly sanding they were a little splotchy looking. The stain evened them up nicely.
I'm happy with the way they came out.

Now that is a really nice-looking gun. Superb job on the nickel, too, from what I can see.

Best small show buy, I found in a small show was in an old closed Target store. Maybe 30 tables, $3.00 to get in. Did a quick walk-a-round and was about to leave and stopped and looked in a Junk box marked $5.00 anything in box. Picked out pre N frame grip adapter. when I bought it I asked the vender what it was, he said no idea. OK by me. Put it on my 1936 Registered Magnum.
