C/c/U German proof law of 1891, this stamp is for pistols and revolvers. It's a pressure stamp. A single C/U was for long guns(if I'm remembering all of this correctly).

It might be worth the cost of a letter to see if it was exported over there from the time it was shipped originally.

Is there a website showing all the S&W proof marks and what they mean, or would this be impossible?

The problem is that S&W doesn’t have any proof marks

For example, the old 1891-to-1939 German proof on the gun shown by the OP here is very uncommon on American revolvers, but can be found on lots of guns that are not S&W.

So if you wanted a list of all possible historic and current foreign proof marks that COULD theoretically be on a S&W gun that went abroad, you might as well just buy a handbook of the world’s proofs. There are actually quite a few good international lists to be found online covering various time spans. A simple google search will lead you there. I haven’t found the perfect one yet.

The NRA Museum has a handy list of proof marks.
