While at a gun show yesterday I saw a Small hand ejector, It was priced at 350, All the #s matched and the serial was 40*** Sorry All I remember is it was in the 40K range, It had a 3 1/4" barrel and was chambered for the .32 S&W long.
I didnt buy it and when I got home I looked it up in the SCS&W and the $ for a very good condition one is $315.
They were only in the first change from 1904-1906.
I would guess it was in 90+ condition.
I got the guys cell #, Should I call him??
What is a realistic $ for one of these old buggers?
Thank you
Peter

Peter , last year I bought an 03 5th. change with the 4 1/4 barrel for $350. I bought it because it spoke to me.
It is in excellent condition with stunning deep blue and no issues.
My reasoning was this: if I was going to own just one of these, ( I feel every collector should have one) it is going to be a good one, and easy to shoot.
The barrel is long enough to shoot well at 15 yds.
Every one that sees it stops and talks.

I don't think you'd lose at that price, but maybe you'd like to find a longer barreled one like I did.

Hope you get the opinion you're looking for .

Regards ,,Al

Here is a picture of the little fellow I just went out and took this morning.

I agree. Every collector should have at least one of these .32 HEs, if for no other reason than to admire the fine details found in perfect gun making by master gun makers, fitters & polishers of the old school. Having said that, these guns do not fly off the tables at $350. I would offer $250 and I think the chances are very good you will own it. I'll bet the seller has had it a long time and is ready to see it leave. Good Luck, Ed.

I picked mine up a year or so back on G.B. I thought it was "sleeping" so bid on it and got it for a tad over $270.00 This one has a 4.25" Barrel. It was manufactured 1903-4

I would buy the one you are looking at for $350 Just my .02 Just guessing, but I'd suggest the shorter barrel would attract more attention.

They do have incredible workmanship! I don't shoot mine, but I love holding it and admiring the fine work.

Bob

I got a 1903 5 change. It sure ain't as purty as those shown above. It has a 'patina' that looks like brown. I saved the grips and put some rubber ones on. It is a great shooter. I really like the sight picture.

I just wanted an ole Smith to shoot. I have a blast!
