44 hand ejector, 2nd model, target
Its a long way from coastal SC to Tulsa, but I keep going because I can always find at least one gun that I think I just can't live without. This was my fourth trip to the Wannamaker show, and here is this year's find.

That's a great-looking find! I wonder if those grips would have come from an early Triple Lock, due to the dished top.

That's my thinking as well.

Regardless of the grip provenance, what a delightful 2nd Model Target.
Congratulations and thanks for sharing it.

Thanks for the comments on the gun, but especially on the stocks. The stocks on the gun are pencil numbered 987. I have no idea if that is a complete or partial serial number. Looking at low numbered triple locks in our database, 3840-4123, I find examples listed with medallion grips and non-medallion.
Then looking at second model examples, near 20500, I again find medallion and non-medallion. Does non-medallion on second models refer to convex tops, vs the concave tops I currently have?
I’m just trying to understand what I need to look for to get period correct stocks for this gun.

That's the entire number. Triple Lock production started in 1906-08 and about 1910 S&W went to gold medallion grips. The TL was the first N frame.

That's an extremely nice find, congrats!
As Muley Gil posted, the #s on the grip were always complete serial #s.
You're correct, non-medallion grips for the vintage of your gun refers to convex tops, vs. the concave tops you currently have. However, the concave top grips you have are about the rarest and highest priced N frame grips!

What a beauty!
Maybe, there’s a “New Century” (SN 987) out there with the stocks to your 2nd Model target. (?)
I’ve heard about the Wannamaker Show for years and have never been...
Looks like I need to do something about that!
Thanks for sharing your good story.

A Second Model .44 HE Target is a fine revolver to have in the collection.
I am fortunate to have one made a bit later than the OP's. Mine numbers 49369.
I had a thread on it a few years ago here: 44 H.E. 2nd Mod. Target #49369
Congratulations on your fine acquisition!
