455 Mk II in 45 Colt...
Slightly different conversion than normally seen. This one has a bored out HD barrel and converted 357 recessed cylinder along with upgraded sights. I haven't shot it yet but am looking forward to giving it a go. Only slight touch ups were done on the finish instead of a bull buff/re-blue due to wanting to retain the roll-marks and patina from over 100 years of service.

Pretty nice pair of old war horses.
Did you convert it or have it converted?
Any markings on it indicating it started life as a .455"?

You can make out crossed pennants on the front of the frame and a column of the usual acceptance / inspection marks on the frame's rear.

What happened to the original barrel and cylinder? if you have them, how are they marked?

Great revolver. I'd install larger stocks, if only temporarily for range duty. You'll have to careful to select molds that do not have long SWC noses.

I had a 2nd Model .455 that had been converted to .45 Colt. I used the Keith semi wadcutter in my reloads, but I had to deep seat them and crimp over the front band. Of course, I reduced the powder charge.

Lyman changed that Keith design at least three times. That is why Keith went elsewhere to get the molds cut. NOE makes a good copy of the original.

Is the entire front sight brass? I have never seen a front sight like that and it is beautiful. I bet highly functional too.

I've seen some cowboy action action (CAS) revolvers that have had the front sights replaced with brass ones.

I really like your conversion. Would also like to hear a range report when you get around to it.
Thanks for sharing it.

I had it converted by Alan Harton. I bought it off GB as an unconverted 455 that had gone through a couple cycles of not selling. Along with the proof marks you can see above it's also got the crown over 30 on the butt. The original barrel and cylinder moved on to help another member's project.

By using the longer 357 cylinder, I can seat normal OAL 45 Colt. My 28-2 converted to 45 Colt uses a non-recessed 41 mag cylinder that allows even more OAL.

The brass front sight blades on both 45's are quite visible. The inserted rear sight blade is also a big improvement over the original round top rear sight set-up.

Alan Harton does great work. I had him convert two Old Model Ruger .357 Blackhawks to .44 Special and a M28 to .44 Special.

Took it out today with some 200 gr SWC over Red Dot. This thing shoots great and super consistent if I do my part.
I think these were 10 (left group) and 15 (right group) yards, off hand in single action.
Rang some steel from further out once I saw what it does to paper.
Very happy with the product from Mr. Harton.
