This S&W M&P Hand Ejector has been in the family inventory for about three years. I bought it for my wife for Mother's Day to replace the S&W M&P Shield 9mm I bought her previously. I felt the Shield was "just what she needed." Ever make that mistake? I've been married long enough to know better and simply claim momentary ignorance. Although she qualified for her CCL with the Shield she never really cared for it and genuinely enjoyed shooting our Models 10s.

It's proved a wonderful firearm in fabulous condition. Its serial number indicates manufacture (ship date) somewhere between 1948 and 1952, most likely 1950. The mother-of pearl grips are quite real, but of course are not S&W-issue, and are in excellent condition. The hammer and trigger still sport case hardening and the nickel finish is original and in overall wonderful shape. Cleaner inside than out.

Not my cup of tea particularly but my bride loves it and shoots it well and that's plenty good enough for me.

You still did her a favor with the Shield since she qualified for her CHL with the semi-automatic...Under Texas law she can now carry anything her heart desires although her choice seems to be non-S/A...But either way now works for her......Ben

Well I thnk its just fine. A nice Smith is always welcome around here no matter how mundane others might think it is. If she shoots it good, nothing more to ask. Well Done

If she likes it and shoots it well she will have confidence in it. That might make a difference should she ever need to use it fast.

Retro is always great, I gave my 30 year old granddaughter a nice M-10 when she said she would like one. I got a text of her shooting it and it said it is her favorite. Her Husband is a Deputy Sheriff and has a house full of black automatics. She likes her revolver. She qualified for a Texas Handgun licence with a Glock.

My youngest niece is sort of an honorary daughter, and before she was old enough to legally buy it, she asked for a little 32 J-frame (Mod 30-1) that caught her eye. I told her if she would take the requisite safety course, when she reached 21, I'd give her one. The one I gave her had been the pet carry gun of a recently deceased gunsmith that not only had he slicked up nicely, but was wearing a set of Roy Fishpaw grips... she can shoot the lights out with it! Did I mention that I think of her as a daughter and treat her as such?

I had to go back and look which forum I was on.

Don't get me wrong. I love the "pre-Model 10s" and Model 10s. It's the MOP grips. Though gorgeous, I tend to prefer nice wood. Paired with the nickel finish some might think it a tad feminine.

When I picked this revolver up and proceeded through the transaction the FFL was casting sideways glances at me and wasn't very talkative. When I informed it was for my wife's use he warmed up and became cordial - he obviously had doubts about a guy buying a revolver that looked sourced from what he explained was probably a brothel owner. Perhaps a "Texas" thing.

We laughed and I walked out with a very nice HE.

If the gun made the man, up here is Oklahoma I'd have to leave the LGS with one of these.


P.S. I told him it was for my wife!

Your wife has good taste, here is my wife's kitchen gun in the drawer she keeps it in.

Tapered barrel, round front sight, 4 in. barrel, 5 screws and .38 Spec. It has it all. The Pearl and Nickel are icing on the cake. Larry

Took my wife out in the California desert to shoot my new-to-me Brazilian m1917 back in the late 80's and since then she has declared it her gun. Never actually gave it to her, but but know better than to try and reclaim it.

Similar situation happened to me when my wife took an excellent women's firearm class from one of the local NRA officials. The fee covered everything including a chance to try out everything they had on the rental line (which was extensive). After the class was over and she was excited about what she had learned and shooting all of the different makes and calibers, I asked her "Did you find a make or style you liked?" She said "I like Glocks and Sigs." I told her that I didn't own either but she was welcome to try my HK2000SK next time we go shooting. She had not finished the first mag before saying "I REALLY like this one, can I have it?" I told her "Its yours, enjoy it." I gave her the HK, a couple mags, one loaded with snap caps, the other some personal defense stuff. Its hers, in order to fill the gap I bought myself an HK45C, good trade.
