TWO .22 Ladysmiths Added to My Accumulation
I'm an "old" man. I'm excited!!! That doesn't happen very often.
I have been looking for a very long time to add a "nice" M frame .22 Ladysmith to my meager accumulation. I have seen lots of them priced for way more than I was willing to pay. And every time I came across a nice one, it sold for more than I was willing to pay.
A week or so ago, I ran across two of them on GB and put them in my watch list. To make a long story short, I ended up with both of them. The first one that I "won" is a "plain jane" 4" blue version 3rd model that shows some normal finish wear, but has the nicest forcing cone I have ever seen on one of these.
The second one that I ended up with is also a 3rd model, with 3 1/2" barrel, blued. It is pretty much brand new. It was obviously refinished at some point, due to the fact that it is fully engraved! I have no idea if it is factory or not, but it is exquisite in appearance. I took a big gamble on this one. It will be interesting to see what I can find out about it. Will definitely be "talking" with Roy on this one.
Oh, yeah. Another interesting tidbit is the serial numbers on these two guns are only 22 apart. When I have the guns in hand, I will take a few better pictures and get them posted up here. For now, these will have to do. Sure am hoping I didn't get burned too bad...

Interesting engraving, you will have fun trying to trace who dunit, etc. My guess is it's after market and I wonder if the stocks are original to the gun, as that much overkill on the engraving efforts usually called for upgraded stocks, also. Keep us posted on what Roy can tell you. Nice additions to your collection, however. Ed

I saw that one with the 4 inch barrel too, and wanted to bid on
it. I sent the seller some questions before I placed a bid, but
they never got back to me. Glad you got it.

I think you did great on that "plain jane" but you may want to steel yourself up for some less than optimal news on the engraved gun.
That said, even though I don't think it will be factory, it still looks dang good. I was watching that auction closely myself because it is such an attractive little piece. As long as that's enough for you I expect you will be happy. And you should be, because that's a real little looker!

I'm inclined to agree an engraved item has been refinished IF it was engraved outside of the factory---although I'm also inclined to believe the factory may very well ship items "in the white" to certain outside engravers---------and if not now, then most certainly in times past.

Thank you for sharing these two both are very nice. The engraved one who knows other than the historical society the story on it, and even they may not know, but I would sure take the gamble...

Two great little guns. We have enough experts on the Forum that someone will recognize the engraving eventually. Whoever it was he was very talented.

Excellent revolvers both, I'd be delighted with either but I will say the engraved one is very nicely done, regardless of who did the work.

Need some help on some Lady grips I got in a box of grips and mags. My grips are the same as Plain Jane. Medallion is .375".
There is no Sn. stamped in the right grip. No screw.
I have not researched them yet. If there is anyone out there needs a set of Lady grips, pls. PM me.

You won't find stamped serial #s on Ladysmith grips, they were penciled in that era. So look closely out under the sun and with magnification.
