Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Without a picture, I believe that you have a 44 hand ejector 2nd model from around 1925. The experts will be along shortly to provide more details.

Welcome to the forum! You have a 2nd model .44 Special. Guesstimating from the S/N, from the early 1920's.
Pictures would be a great help in going further.

??? That's a new one. Ivory perhaps? Those are grandfathered in most places.

If the grips concern you, take them off and post pictures of the gun. As Fran says, ivory is ok in the USA.

Welcome to the forum! As others have stated there are no legal issues to owning antique Ivory in the U.S.A. some states may have restrictions on selling Ivory items, but I am not sure on this. I am not familiar with other countries laws. I have one Smith with Ivory grips on it, and have posted pictures of it as have many others on here. Here is my one set of Ivory grips on my Perfected.

It is covered in an animal hide that is now protected but wasn't at the time (30's)
