You have a US Army model 1917 World War I handgun. If the serial number on the butt is as you state, it's a very early model made in 1917. These are well known to folks in the Collector community and there are many threads on them in the Forum. You'll likely find anything you need to know with a forum search.

Welcome to the Forum from Pennsylvania, Gator man!
Your S&W has been identified. You will find a lot of us here have an appreciation for the 1917. And one thing almost all will agree with, we really like pictures. (For pictures, when posting, click on "Go Advanced" - in the toolbar, click the paperclip (that will open the "manage Attachments" dialog box, - In the box, click on "Choose File", then choose the one on your computer that you wish to attach, then click "Upload" - (You can attach up to five pictures this way.) - Click the paperclip again and click the image(s) in the dialog box, and your picture(s) will be attached.
Should look like this

The serial number is stamped in two lines for anything over three digits. Is that a 6 above the 759? If so, your serial number is 6759.

A hearty Buckeye welcome from NE Ohio!
Yep, we like the Model 1917 revolver. Here is one of mine. This one is from October 1918 and has a bunch of British proof marks on it.

Mine are the .455 revolvers Smith built for the Brits. Only one is still .455 though. Nice big manly guns. Hard to beat an N frame. And if the Huns break through and you’re mty you still have a 2 and a half pound club.

I seriously doubt that. The first 1917s were finished in Sept, 1917. 5759 would probably be a month or two later. They did not attain warp speed instantly.
I own #75 and Roy says it was part of the first production run. It shipped in Nov, 1917.

Then the military gun site database is incorrect. It's my understanding that all of the manufacturing dates there were taken from army records.

That site shows #75 shipped in December 1917. Roy says November.

Value is hard to pin down. From the photos presented the condition is not great. Hard to tell if refinished but I would not pay more that $650 for it. And less if I were to have it in hand.

I would almost be sure that the OP's revolver was manufactured in late 1917, but when it shipped is another story. 9905 shipped in January, 1918.
