Default Triple Lock Faux Pas

Had a .44HE 1st Model nickel finish 6 1/2" .44 spl SN 3463. I decided it was in about 60% condition (although I am not an expert grader) so sold it for $800. What the Blue Book says for a 60% gun.
Do y'all have a database that would say if the gun was originally nickel?
From what I have read here on the forum, thinking I gave someone a bargain.

The problem with printed material is that by the time it is distributed the prices in it are out of date. And yes you did give someone a very good deal. Of course this is pure speculation without photos.

If you and the buyer were happy with the deal at the time....forget it and continue the hunt.

I sold a triplelock through a local dealer on GB. It had been refinished, and was worn, but sound. It went for over $1900! Go figure!

If you felt you did OK in the moment it's time to move on and just don't do it again. Hard to know without looking at pics and checking the action, so it's hard to know how much you under charged by but it's rare to see a shootable TL under $1200.

One sold yesterday on proxbid for 1500 plus fee’s. It was not identified as a triple lock but pictures showed it was.

The deal is done ... prices go up and sometimes prices fall .
You were happy with the deal . Be Happy , move on and the next time you wish to sell a gun ... Check the value before the sale .
The barn door is open and the horse has left the building ... no sense beating youself up over it ...C'est La Vie !

Picked this one up off GB less than a year ago. Original nickle, $850.

OP,

Do you have photographs of that revolver for us to evaluate?

No photos, sold the gun a few months back. Reading on the forum, seems the price was too low. Looking at grading pictures of handguns I thought it looked about like a 60-70% gun.
Wondering if it was refinished. Thought maybe from the SN some of you guys might know if it was originally nickel.
As has been pointed out to me, if it was a refinish it has 0% original finish.

The serial number would have told one if it was originally nickel or not--but the entrance fee for that is $90 for the factory letter. Most can tell a renickel or not with the gun in hand or with quality photographs, but, barring that, the serial number inside the shroud often has a "B" for blued or a "N" for nickeled.

Do you recall seeing any case colouring on your revolver, such as the hammer, trigger, and/or cam? If so, that's a good indicator as to it being original vs if those parts were all nickeled, indicating a refinish.

Lastly, although not that scientific at all, where did you sell your revolver--e.g., what venue? And, did it sell quickly or did it take awhile to sell? If it sold really quickly, it likely was original in all respects whereas if it didn't move quickly, it might have had "problems".

I'm always in the market for a good Triple Lock revolver so I wish I had known about it.

Without seeing pictures and quite a few detailed ones it is hard to ascertain the value of any gun.
That being said the first rule for a gun seller or buyer is Blue Book or any “book” value that I have seen is worthless unless you are a dealer and then it is a mere prop that in most cases has absolutely nothing to do with current gun values.
Maybe once upon a fairy tale they were relevant.

Don't remember if trigger and hammer were case hardened. Did not know to look for a B to indicate blue finish. Have learned a lot in my few months on the forum, so hopefully won't repeat my mistakes. Used a Blue Book because I did not know any better.
Wish I had kept the gun.
