Default Musical Grips - New Finds on some Old Guns

One of the things that I love most about S&W revolvers is the interchangeability of grips for like sized frames (i.e. K-frames, N-frames...). It is a regular (and fun) occurrence for me to move grips around and see how they look on various different revolvers. I'm sure that many of you also take pleasure in playing "musical grips" until the "music" stops and they find a permanent home.

I recently picked up two sets of Keith Brown's finest from a couple of members of this forum (thank you Leo and Russ). These two shooter-grade K-22s have seen a lot of use and in one case, a bit of neglect. For fun, I used these two guns as a stage to display the new grips. Probably not the final destination of the grips, but placeholders until I find the perfect guns for the grips...

I'd love to see some photos of your "musical grips"...

Proud to give the first like to this thread. I imagine there are not many KB K frame Ropers in ivory to be found. I also imagine this set will end up on something with some scratches on it!

Ever notice how a set of grips look fantastic on one gun and like **** on another, even when there the same model gun except for barrel length or type of finish. ( mostly with Stag and Ivory )...................................M*

The correct place for the Ivory KB Ropers is on one of my guns, if you want to come by my house and put them on personally that works, or you can just mail them to me

Richard
Very nice Roper Style Grips..
I really like the 2nd pictured Wood Grips.
They trip my trigger a lot !!
Your too good scrounging up nice pieces
for your collection..
Just me ..but I think the Ivory ones would look
best on an engraved Nickled Smith for the
Prom night dress up Grips😁
Both sets are really great looking grips..
I say 3 likes.. for those wood ones on your target 22😍
Best Randy..

Default Musical Grips

Richard,
As is your usual, the attention to detail is outstanding. When you post pictures I can hardly wait to see what I'm going to discover,
kinda like being a kid and walking into a Candy Store.
Thanks for sharing.

I play with grips until they are on a gun that just looks right to me. Then most of the time they stick. But only until I buy another gun. If the gun is really old, I tend to like factory stocks. If I pull numbered to the gun stocks off they go in a bag marked so at some time they can go with the gun if it goes to a new owner. Thanks for sharing Richard. I always enjoy your posts.

I don't even know where to start on this thread. I move grips around on some guns like only a grip junky would.

My Nickle K 22 has had many and I still have a few more to try.
Can't fully decide still.Maybe I will break out some smooth magnas.

Originally came with magnas but its a target grip worthy gun.

Musical grips? That's my favorite song!

All of these are guns that came to me without the original grips:

Musical grips make those other guns a whole lot of more interesting to me too...

Hell, digging through my picture folders it seems I don't own much of anything any more with "correct" grips. Certainly none of my favorites are came to me with their original stocs.

I also like the really weird grips...

Those were listed as "machine gun handle" on ebay.

And I found this thing which is a fine little roscoe and has some wonderfully comfortable grips:

Ok I'll stop now.

Me too. In fact I wonder if it is a sickness because I find myself rotating grips over and over again depending on my mood on that particular day. Case in point is this Colt OM. The OM came with its original factory grips…….

But I love Ropers and had a beautiful set that I just had to try on the OM. They fit perfectly and below is the results. The OM wears these grips when I am shooting it…….

But recently a beautiful set of Colt ivory grips became available here on the Forum and for some reason I just had to get them. As soon as I received them I immediately had to try them on the OM. They also fit almost perfectly and I like to display the OM wearing them…….

I feel the Ropers would be more at home on a King Super Target and the ivory grips would be better utilized on a nicely engraved OM, but considering the price and availability of those particular items, I may just have to keep rotating them on my current OM.

After looking at this post at least 30 times I’m speechless. 😳 The stocks, the guns, the photography! What dreams are made of for gun guys. Thanks for the show.

I don't have an engraved nickel K-Frame, so here is my best alternative on an engraved 66...

... and the walnut ones on a 6" Magna-Ported 66...

...Just keeping the "music" going...
