Really having trouble identifying my recent yard sale find... Has a rounded buttstock, but is also a M&P. I was under the impression that they were squared stocks. Attached are pictures.
It is neither, too young for a Model 1899 but much too old for a Model 10. But it does live between those two
You have what is the successor model to the 1899, a Model 1902 Military Model, by some collectors also called a Model 1905 round-butt, but that’s a technicality.
It was probably manufactured in 1907. The Model 10 and model numbers in general did not appear until 1957/58. But these guns do all belong in the same lineage.

I'm curious as to why the number inside the yoke is different than the one on the buttstock and the barrel. Thoughts?
