Coke Stock differences
Ok guy i have a Pre 29 6 1/2 inch 44 with original Cokes
SN 178XXX
A Model 27 which i bought separately which supposedly are original Cokes also, but they are different in that one on the 27 has a football relief cut and the 29 has a more relaxed longer relief cut?
So the question is are they BOTH original cokes, or is one or both fakes?
Ive add a photo

The set on top has been crudely modified by someone.
They both look to be cokes however.

Modified is correct. Both sets are original coke bottle stocks with the set on the 44 Magnum having been altered by a former owner.

Yeah the original relief cut was inadequate on bot the Coke grips and the standard target grips. Often modified until S&W not only enlarged the relief cut but eventually cut the wood away thru to the frame.

Did Cokes come on 27s? Thought they were only on 29s and 57s...

Cokes
Your correct Superman i put them on aftermarket but made the switch to the 29. The cokes that came on the pre 29 were altered in an ugly fashion and are in the extra parts box.
This is the new configuration.

I had a Model of 1950 .44 Target with target stocks that someone had done the same thing to. Looks just like your Cokes.

When I see buggered Cokes-
‘Everyday I have to cry some.’
I got Cokes on my 25.
But I got it from Quincy, my Crazy Arkansas Buddy. (RIP)

Generally speaking, a Model 27 ordered with target stocks would have been fitted with diamond targets made of American walnut. However, if a person specifically ordered the more expensive style of target stocks S&W would have supplied them.

Very interesting. And by "more expensive", I expect the difference was only a few dollars (?) Of course that was 1950s dollars, but still ...
I don't think the modifications look all that crude, but obviously collector value is gone. If anyone has some they don't want, shoot me a PM, I will take them off your hands.
