Default 4 Screw Pre-29

Approximately what month and year did the 4 screw Pre-29's appear? None in the first (1956) year, right?

February 1957, but 4 and 5-screw 44 Magnums were mixed until about mid-1957.

Thanks, Bill. That is what I thought. A guy was swearing his 4 screw was a first year gun.

Larry...Some individuals believe their 4-screw is a first year gun because of the serial number they believe dates the 44 Magnum to 1956. For example, S167444 is an early 4-screw 44 Magnum. The serial number could date the revolver to 1956, but it actually shipped on March 14, 1957.

I seem to be in a possible one Man Group who is more interested in the actual model and configuration than when it shipped.
I don’t precisely know when my 5 Screw Pre-29 shipped.
But It is what it is and it shipped when it shipped!

Bill have you ever researched and compared of the original 4" five screw pre 29's how many shipped in 1956 vs how many 5 screw four inches shipped in 1957 ?
Also do you think the 4" five screws that shipped in Feb 57 were completed Iin 56 and spent the holidays in the vault ?

Engine49guy...Actually, I have researched your question. Approximately 168 4-inch 44 Magnums with a 5-screw frame shipped in 1956 (most in November and a few in December), whereas, 685 with a 5-screw frame and 4-inch barrel shipped in 1957 (January-June). Some of the 5-screw guns that shipped in early January 1957 were probably completed in late December 1956, but I believe most were completed in 1957.

Hi,
I've never shot it. I want to preserve it in its current grade which is already not extraordinary.
