Without pictures it is difficult to give you a value. However, I bought a four inch 48 no dash, refinished by S&W in 1969, less than two years ago and paid $975 for it. The no dash was only made for one year (or so) and the Standard Catalog gives them a 25% premium. As described $1k for sure (because I would pay that) and likely more like $1200+ for someone who is looking for one. Good luck.

I estimate the value of that particular revolver to be “ darn, I really regret selling that .22 magnum”.
Seriously.

Ha, you might be dead-on there. I am far from deciding to sell or trade. Just thinking... often a dangerous thing.

Being realistic, if the offer above of 12 is real, I would say to sell. My thoughts are in the 7 range. The model 48 is loud, expensive to shoot and gives marginal performance over modern 22 LR. Although being a nice 4 screw is good, they were not that popular and usually laid around the LGS for a long time.

$1100 - $1300 is fair. I wouldn’t let my 648 no dash go for that. From what I’ve been seeing, any clean Smith rimfire will bring $900+, especially .22 mags; Colt Diamondbacks are well over $2K.

If it were Mine I would ask $1400 and reduce to no less than $1300. Less than that it's a keeper.

I wouldn't take less than $1200-$1300 for a no-dash M48 that looks that good. I have a M48-4, one of the last made with a pinned barrel, from 1981; it's in similar condition to yours and I gave $1000 for it a year and a half ago, no box or papers. You don't by chance have the .22LR cylinder for it, do you?

No, would that I did. I had a 70s vintage 4" with both cylinders years ago and foolishly let it get away from me.

Y'all have about convinced me I need to keep it. I know all the "drawbacks" of the . 22 mag, but I still like them. I have an old model Ruger Super Single Six that I had cut to 4 5/8" with a brass bead front sight and shallow V rear with a white centerline that I use a good bit. It keeps the magnum cylinder in it most all the time. And I have a pretty good supply of CCI 40 grain hps, so I probably just need to count my blessings and keep it. Thanks for all your input.

The only drawback to the .22 WRFM that I know of is the cost to shoot it, and the way some people spend money on ammunition these days I am not sure that qualifies.
That's a nice looking Model 48 you have there. I'd be one who votes for you to hang on to it unless you have a pressing need for the money. Sounds like you lean that way, too. If you get the itch, you might start looking around for a .22 LR cylinder for that gun. Get it fitted and you'd have "the best of both worlds," you might say.

Anyone else notice the condition of the elector rod end?
Unless it's superficial, and not from someone that took pliers to it in an attempt to tighten/loosen the rod (causing it to rust like that), I think your valuations are a bit on the high side.

According to the S&N book, a 48 no dash would be from 1959. They show the 48-1 as coming out in '59 as well, so I'm assuming my gun is 1959 vintage since it is a no-dash. S. N. is K390xxx.

Dash or no Dash
Estimate value $800 or less.
The local Store has two shooter grade S&Ws. With no
attempted plier tighting of the ejector rod and all
else good. A .22lr and 38Spl. Price tags are over $1100.
They have sat there for months.
Shooter Grade, .22 Magnum, Expensive and Unavailable
Ammo, Obnoxiously Loud when shooting and overly
priced, would not appeal to many, and would be
hard to sell.
Just my thoughts and seeing those Smiths.

Last four I saw were a mix of dash numbers; all priced at $999. All gone within a week.

i like your 48 6". Very nice. I paid a grand for my no dash 8 3/8". I missed out on a 4" no dash earlier this, which is really what I want, not because they are any better to shoot, but because they are harder to find. I guess I'll be happy when I have all three barrel lengths.

I've posted this one more than once but since folks keeping looking for 4 inch no dash 48s and can't find them I'll show it one more time to prove that they do exist.

...and that tarnish or whatever it was on the ejector rod end cleaned right up today. I think it might have been where someone at some point wrapped the end with a piece of leather to tighten it, maybe, and it left fiber in the knurling. It did look rusty in the pics, but it's clean now.
