Letter on my Pre-28 Highway Patrolman
I just received the letter on my Pre28. I thought it was a law enforcement gun, because it came with a holster, speed loaders and a cartridge belt. I am not sure about the Springfield Armory connection or the acronyms for Quantico. I though it would be good to share this here and learn a little more about this great gun.

Very neat!
Cpl is corporal, Sullivan's rank in the Marine Corps, I assume.
M.C.A.S. is Marine Corps Air Station, and the letters that precede it are a unit to which Corporal Sullivan was assigned. One of our Marine pals here on the forum can probably help with that.

Not a Marine ... but HQSQ should be Headquarters Squadron.

Many people think Quantico=FBI. It also has a ton of Marine facilities. When I was there in late 69 and part of 70 for the USMC computer science school, They also did officers candidate school there as well as other Marine military schools. Cpl Sullivan could very well have been there as temporary duty personnel from his main unit.

Looks to me as though Dad bought it for son who was likely to go in harm's way in the future.

My son was assigned to Quantico from 99-02 as part of base computer operations. It is unusual for anyone below the rank of Sargent (E-5) to be assigned to Quantico, with the exception of base guard staffing. There was an exception made for 15 computer nerds in my son's time. He only rose to Lance Corporal (E3).
They thought so much of my son's computer skills, that on 9/11/01, he manned a M-2 50 Cal. Outside the USMC HQ Building! Remember, Every Marine is a Rifleman! (He had qualified Expert on the M-2 earlier that Summer).
