Reg Mag couple of long barrels
Dug out a couple of long barrel RMs, the top one is 8 3/4 and the bottom is 8 3/8. Have the box for the 8 3/4 and the reg certificate for the 8 3/8. Think the 8 3/8 may be refinished as the made is USA is light and a couple of the pins look a little flat, but still very nice looking. Been learning to caption photos so been going a little nuts.

Well, as they say, that's a nice pair! These guns shipped very close together in time. What's the story on the stocks and the hammers?

The top one lettered with checkered walnut magnas and the bottom one with checkered walnut magnas with medallion. There is no mention in the letter concerning the hammers.

The hammer on REG 3681 is a standard Reg Mag hammer. The hammer on REG 3830 seems to have characteristics of a modified post war hammer. Are the grips serial number matching to the guns?

Thanks Chuck, I just wanted to verify the data in the SWCA Pre-War .357 Magnum database. If you want to PM the shipping destination for both RM’s to me, I will add that to the database as well.

Would love to see a close up of the modified hammer!
Is it offset at all or have odd checking on the top?

Here are pictures of the hammer. Picture makes it appear a little offset but it is not. In so far as short action I plead ignorance, I don’t know how to tell the difference.

Short action on the left.
Long on the right.
Thanks for the hammer pics. It's not something I have looked at before this shape.

Thanks for your help. If I’m interpreting your photos correctly, it’s a long action

Correct, and your close-up photos show the REG. U. S. PAT. OFF. on the back of the hammer and the concentric grooves on the side of the hammer so apparently the shape of the original Reg Mag hammer was modified and appears to be nicely done.
