Its a Victory Model that was cut down by a distributer to make it more sellable back in the 60s. Unfortunately that also made it less collectible now.

It’s probably a $300 gun now, on a good day.

Default Thought I saw a unicorn in your post!

Welcome from Virginia!

For a brief moment I thought WOW..this guy stumbled onto a very rare (or scarce at minimum) WWII Victory revolver. According to Charlie Pate's book, there were approx. 850,000 Victory revolvers made from 1941 to 1945 and had serial numbers from V1 to V811119. Of these many were sent to allies under lend lease and were 38-200 mostly in 5" bbl length. The 38-200 is a shorter cartridge than the 38 Special, thus when these guns came back to the US for sale years after WWII, it was necessary to either ream the cylinder charge holes or replace the cylinder with a 38 Special cylinder.

When I saw the pics of your gun I thought WOW a genuine 2" Victory model from WWII. The swell at bbl to frame looks righteous, the front sight attachment looks correct. The s/n in the barrel flat looks correct, the larger ejector rod knob is correct for that 38 Special cylinder.

So....the grips are wrong, the cylinder (s/n 675597) dates anywhere from 1915 to 1942 from a 38 M&P and is of course incorrect for any Victory gun, but maybe this WAS a valid 2" Victory that went to Europe as Lend Lease chambered in 38-200 but got back to US somehow without any import marks or stamps, and was NOT cut down....just 38 Spl cylinder added.

Charlie Pate notes that the first order to S&W for 2" Victory model was October 19, 1942, and the 2nd order for 500 of the 35000 ordered to be in 2" was issued May 10, 1944 and was shipped to the OSS on August 22, 1944.

To date...only one (1) of the 2" Victory is known to have shipped to a Texas LEO entity, and none of the OSS guns have been uncovered.

With the OP's early serial number maybe (I thought) it was a legit part of that October 19, 1942 first Order for 2" Victory guns.

Alas...............you guys are probably right and it is a cut down, 5" BSR Victory with a 38 Special cylinder and incorrect grips. If cut down the front site attachment and re-blue job looks pretty good. Someone has been at the sideplate screws with wrong screwdrivers, but more pictures of the left side of the barrel markings (if any) and closeups of the muzzle crown, the front sight to the barrel would help in further evaluation. Other wise like already said: a $300 shooter on a good day).

PS: Don't know if those are live rounds in your gun pics, but if they are, be aware that I don't see a small "S" on the sideplate and your early serial number means the gun is NOT equipped with the safety block for the hammer and can discharge if dropped.

Yep, it’s one of the boatloads of victories that were cut down. My dad carried one off duty for decades. In addition to being chopped to 2” it was nickel plated. I am confident my dad had no idea of its origins or modifications; neither did I until being educated here.

There is one glaring problem, the first thing to look at on a Victory snub:

The front barrel lug is missing = cut barrel.

Game over, all other considerations become moot.

Is it .38 S&W or .38 Special?

Looks like the cylinder has a different Ser No then the frame so it's probably been replaced.
