You have what is often called a Victory model revolver. It was probably shipped around mid-1942, and that is about all that can be said without further information. These were used during WWII by, primarily, the U. S. Navy, and also civilian police agencies and defense plant guards. Without some property stamps, in this case, more than likely the latter.
As DWalt stated, it is from 1942; a Victory Model.
All S&W K frame revolvers from the 1940s (including the Victory) had five frame screws. So, this one does too. The 4 screw units didn't come along until 1956.
I have a 5 digit serial numbered Victory. It does not have any US markings nor Military markings or police markings. After reading Pates book. I came to the conclusion. That it was one of those Victories sent to a Civilian agency During the War.
