1905 M&P 2” Hand Ejector 38 SPC Additional Info Needed
Recently acquired 1905 S&W hand ejector 4th change 38 S&W. SPC. CTG. Would like some more info on this pistol if possible. Maybe on production numbers of these in 2” barrel. Serial # 598xxx no letter prefix. All serial numbers match. Frame, Barrel Cylinder etc. Thanks for any info

If your gun is indeed all matching and all original, you have something quite desirable and collectible, an early (around 1930) pre-war short-barreled M&P. Not very many were made, and there are general areas of serials known; I believe yours fits there, but we need more input from folks who focus more on these than I do.

On my list is a known snubby having SN 5979xx. No other details. That SN would date it as having been made around the late 1920s, but that doesn't mean much. Several other snubbies in the same general SN range are known to have shipped in the mid-1930s.

I believe the 2” .38 M & P barrels were ordered in the mid-1930s and (probably) older frames were used to assemble complete guns, which would explain the discrepancy in the serial number and ship date time frames.
