Default 1939 S&W revolvers

For many years, I was on a quest for one or more S&W revolvers made in my birth year, 1939. I939 was a pivotal year; Germany invaded Poland to kick off WWII on September 1. The New York World's Fair of 1939 was a showpiece for then-futuristic items. San Francisco had a grand Exposition. Great movies such as Gone With The Wind, Stagecoach, Wuthering Heights, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington and The Wizard of Oz were made.

I finally did find a couple of guns from that year that met my criteria for condition. Here they are:

I would enjoy seeing photographs of other guns that can be verified as shipped in 1939 to see what may be out there still. If you have one or more, I'd appreciate seeing them!

Thanks,

John

My only 1939 gun is from S&W's main competitor. It shipped on 5/11/39. I call it my Film Noir gun.

This Reg. Mag. went to the Evansville Board of Works & Safety on May 18th,1939. It originally shipped with a 4 in. barrel. Now wears a 5 in.

It has gone back back home 3 times.

Definitely not a safe queen, action smooth as glass.

Here's my 1939 K-22 Outdoorsman. To me it's the 22lr version of a Registered Magnum.

Seems like 1939 was a very good year! For revolvers as well as people. 👍😎

I have two 1939 examples:
57764 is a .44HE Military 2nd Model shipped 12/17/39 to Von Lengerke & Antoine, Chicago. Photo by Lee.
57933 is a nice 38/44 Heavy Duty with humpback hammer shipped 3/2/39 to Wilber W. Miller, Youngstown, OH (City of Youngstown). Photo by 230grfmj.

Looking at all the beauties in this thread caused me to think, "I need/want pre-war 2nd and 3rd Model Target .44's....mmm...good luck with that."

Since this is an S&W forum, I cannot show my Enfield No 2 Mk 1 in S&W 0.38 (aka 38/200), but it is my only birth year revolver (1939). The S&W connection is that I purchased it from Jim Supica quite a few years ago. Dave_n

Regarding Terry's gun:

Compound Interest Calculator
Investment Amount ($):
35.45
Annual Rate of Return (%):

Number of Years:
80
Future Value
$3,750.47
I'd rather have the gun.
