Default Early Pre 19

I bought this last June but now just getting to post a couple photos.

No box or anything else.

Looks like it rode in the holster most of its life.

Shipped August 1956 according to Mr. Jinks.

Stocks are numbered but not to this gun.

SN K260129.

edit: photo added of serial # on stock. Best I can tell its 260288.

I feel fortunate to have found it.

Wow !

That is sweet ! I believe they started at K260000.

So I would defineately call that early ! Nice find for sure.

I have K261590 and it shipped in Aug '56 as well.

I have K2624xx which actually shipped a month earlier in July, 1956. Just goes to show they didn't ship in numerical order even in early productions guns. Congratulations on finding yours!

I have serial number 261987 and it shipped in February of 1957. The only thing in stone about S&W is nothing is in stone.

That Combat Magnum is sweet! I'm curious about those numbered, relieved checkered targets. The reason being is I thought that time frame was around the end of numbered targets. Really nice piece that I would be proud to own.

The only numbered K target stocks I've ever seen in person were in the low 260XXX serial range. That makes sense to me considering the Combat Magnum was the first K frame that shipped with target stocks as standard issue - and that the 260XXX range was reserved exclusively for the CM. Don't recall ever even hearing of any K target stocks being numbered in any other serial range.

Default Serial #

Added photo of the number stamped on RH stock in original post.

My best guess is 260288.

I had another set of K Dia targets that had a stamp but sold them years ago.

Let me check to see how well of records i kept back then
