My favorite "slow down and ENJOY shooting" S&W.
This one will eventually go to my oldest grandson. I have another one for his brother as well.

That's a mighty fine one! My grandaddy got me one just like it (1955 vintage) when I turned 12. He kept it "for me" but it was mine If I behaved all week, when we went fishing Saturday I would get a coke, a candy bar, and a box of WW 22s to shoot.

Thank you handejector and everyone else.
This K-22 is one of my 4 birth month & year (11/47) Smiths in my collection.
Here with its twin:
Left: shipped - 11/03/47 • Right: shipped - 11/20/47
Current 4 Roy-Letter K frames:
The K-22 with the 11/47 Issue of the American Rifleman given to me by my late father-in-law. A very fine pistol shot and very missed.

For me, it's my old Regulation Police targets. Just fun to shoot- no drama. I got a thing for .32's. Most likely going to son#3 along with the Ladysmiths (which he has dibs on in no uncertain terms!)

On the subject of birthday month/year S&W searches, I have been lucky four times. The Holy Grail/Golden Unicorn to me would finding ANY S&W that has the Roy Letter showing shipped 11/13/47. The model doesn't matter, caliber doesn't matter, even condition is not critical... just the lettered date.
Still looking. -Bill

Fine stuff here! The old girl on the left shipped to Abercrombie & Fitch just a little later, 12-12-47.
The Combat Masterpiece is circa 1949.

My great uncle's K22 is definitely one of mine. Another is a BSR in .38 S&W that shipped on my father's 10th birthday.

Although not as nice as any listed here, I recently picked up a M17-3 with a 1975 mfg. date. It matches my son in laws year of birth. Cleaned, it is one of my top shooting handguns. It will be a great gift for him someday.

A question for all of you who shoot your revolvers regularly. Do you remove the cylinder before cleaning the gun? The little screw that retains the yoke suggests that S&W did not envisage frequent removal.
I always remove for cleaning, but my Webley revolvers have that large head screw that can be undone with a coin. With my S&Ws I need the services of a narrow blade screwdriver!
