K22
Sorry for the above wasted two postings hopefully the admin will delete them. I figured out how to post a picture and got two on here I think. I thought this was a 1957, but serial number is K336XXX so I see it's not. It was given to me by a deceased old friend years back. I believe it is a 1958/4 screw.

Someone will be along with a date, don't have my books but I'd guess mid 1950s, maybe '54. Anyway, I really like those non-relieved stocks. Great gun, enjoy it. And welcome to the Forum!

Very nice. Is it marked mod-17? Yes, those non-relieved targets are something.

Thanks yes marked Mod 17. I'm assuming it's a 17-1 since I believe it to be a 58 model. Blueing on this gun is in incredible shape.

I can't see a trigger guard screw in the photos. People who know more about those will be around.
And welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! According to the book, it is 1958 production. It should not be a 17-1.

Thanks, it says Mod 17 on the yoke, I just assumed the 17-1 came in 58.

IIRC, the 17-1 was for the shift from right hand threaded extractor rod to left hand thread. That was around 1960.

I believe what you have is a model 17 (no dash) with the screw in front of the trigger guard. I would not recommend trying to unscrew the ejector rod just to see if it's a mismarked -1, as that might create problems you don't need. Likely shipped in 1958. I've enjoyed shooting my pre-17s and 17-2 and I'll bet yours is a dream to shoot. Just be careful while ejecting empties so you don't ding the top of the left grip panel.

The LH thread extractor rods usually gave a small groove between the knurled tip and the smooth rod.

The lowest serial number on a model-marked K target revolver that we've located so far is K314496. It is a Model 14 and it shipped in July, 1958.
K326533 is a Model 17 that shipped in November, 1958.
K327346 is a Model 17 that shipped in June, 1958.
Your Model 17 with serial number K336XXX could have shipped in 1958, but maybe 1959. Only a records search can tell you for certain.

This is correct and your pictures show that your extractor rod does not have that feature. It is, therefore, a right hand theaded rod. So, it is correctly marked as MOD 17.

Just to join in welcoming and congratulating you, SBC1320. Those K22s and early Models 17 are all time favorites, both to shoot and just to admire. S&W at some of its finest!

SBC1320, just adding to JP@AK info my K 22, serial 3318XX was lettered by Mr. Jinks as having being shipped on October 7 1958.
