Model 29 from 1958 The Naked City episode
I was watching Season 1, Episode 8 of The Naked City from 1958, and at one point the bad guy steals a couple of guns in a break in. One of the guns is a Model 29 with an 8-3/8" barrel! They pointed out the power of the .44 Magnum in the narration. My screen grab below isn't great, but I saw two interesting things.
First, the front sight is a patridge front sight. Perhaps this was normal for 8-3/8" barrels. I'm not an expert.
Second, the grips are diamond magnas. I thought that odd for a Model 29. It must be quite an experience to shoot a .44 Mag with little grips like that.
Anyway, I just thought you all might be interested. The scene is at the 10-minute mark if you want to see it. You can watch the video either on Amazon Prime or on YouTube.

That looks to me like it has a tapered barrel. If so, it's a .357 Magnum (model 27) and not a model 29. That would explain the stocks and the Patridge front sight.
I'm guessing they couldn't get hold of a 29 and figured no one would notice!

I agree, the barrel appears to have a taper, making it a Model 27, which would also explain the Patridge front sight.

It's an interesting episode for gun people to watch. The bad guy also steals what looks like a Colt Woodsman. I won't tell you about the last scene, but it involves one of the cops recognizing one of the guns and saves the day. Here's the link to YouTube. It's worth 25 minutes.

In the days before video stuff like this got missed. Perry Mason is another good place to see vintage S&Ws. Always nice to do a freeze frame on exhibit A.

If that is in fact a Model 27 it’s the same type gun Lee Marvin used as a hit man in “‘The Killers”. He has a silencer on his. Strangely, I he carried a Colt SAA, too.
