Gentlemen,

This isn't a exclusive S&W question, but it does fit this category better than the Lounge.

If I get this correct, Mr. Roper rarely made the grips himself, but they are his design. Correct???
I understand the "distinguishing marks" of a "real" Roper...

Steve Herrett and his assistants did make Roper style grips, if I am correct- for a time.

Which brings me to my question...

Is there any distinguishing characteristics of the Herrett Roper?

And, may I ask, are N and I frame Ropers much less common than K-frame or Colt fitment Ropers?

That's all.
I'm trying to trade for another set for what I think fits an I-frame, and this just made me curious about the subject.

Plus, I like Herrett Stocks anyway.
They feel good.

(I cleared up the post a bit.)

Roper's grips were made, carved, by a guy called Gagne. Mathias Gagne, if memory serves. Member Kwill wrote an article about 'em -- Ropers -- which is very good. I don't think the Herretts have the "ribbon" on the panels that most of the Ropers do. (Although I think I read some Ropers don't have the "ribbon.")

Here's Herretts: http://www.herrett-stocks.com/album.htm

As for which frames had the most grips made for 'em, I dunno, but I think it a function of target model popularity more than anything else.

I would think there would be a very limited number of "I" Frame Ropers.

A couple of years ago at Tulsa I picked up a set of Ropers for a Stevens Single Shot 22 pistol. There was not much interest in them when I sold them.

Gary, I think that was due to the gun make and model. The S&W guys seem to value them more than the Colt guys from what I can see. They are outstanding grips and that ribbon sets them off for me.

There's a set of original Ropers for sale on the Colt Forum (for I frame). They look like they're in pretty good shape. Here's a set of Herrett's on a 27-2:
