Default grip identification

Hi, I dont play here very often. I have a set of early smith grips, checkered walnut, very close to modern K magna I think they are called, frame, but not exact. Maybe a few thousands not quite right. No numbers on back, very fine checkering, similar to the early square butt hand ejectors, but no diamond nor inset emblem. The missing emblem seemed the main difference, in what my reference books show.

I tried everything but standing on my head to upload a pic. I used to spend time on forums, a couple decades back, but nothing worked today.

I broke the man rule, and tried to read instructions, but for an old guy like me, might as well be greek.

If any can explain how to upload pics, I will try to post a pic. thanks, Ron Fallon NV

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! You can watch these: Video Tutorials on Posting Pictures.

Or, click on GO ADVANCED to open the expanded editor. Then click on the paperclip icon and upload your pictures as attachments. If they won't go, the pictures are too large. Resize them to no larger than 1920x1080 pixels and try again.

I have uploaded forum pics years back. I have spent the past hour, changing editing etc, heck, I even watched both videos. Not sure the pic is showing. I show only one grip, as I suspected the pic size was too large. Stubborn is my middle name

I wonder if these might not have been "lunch box" grips? Thus no emblem. All thoughts are welcome, Ron, Fallon NV

Ron, S&W walnut, square butt grips made in the 1905-1910 era did not have medallions and had concave tops like that panel. However, they also had a diamond around the escutcheon and a different style escutcheon. Those may be grips made for a Spanish or Belgian copy.

Thanks for the comments. That they may be from an "offshore" version, had crossed my mind.
I have not closely examined dozens "off shore" guns, but usually, the quality difference is obvious.
These grips, only one or two places is even a hint of runover, out side the borders, crooked lines, nor is spacing off.
Nor have I examined that many early Smiths, that closely.
I was gonna list them on Ebay, and will likely describe them as "mystery grips", or similar subjective description. I am not going to state that they are Smith grips. Since NV passed their no private sales gimmick, I dont do that many gun shows any more, so selling a bit on Ebay, even as kattywhampus as they are concerning gun parts.
I suspect sooner or later, they will start a new state, " East CA."

Thanks again, Ron
