Default Help With my Victory

I have researched what I can on this one but now need some help with the markings. I know that it is a 5 screw and converted by Parker Hale in England. if you can give me any other information on this one it would be appreciated.

No disrespect but you're asking for a haircut over the phone. Need pictures and a serial number.

Nice looking conversion. I'm not sure what additional information you are seeking. It was reamed for .38 Special and proofed for that cartridge as the Birmingham Nitro Proof (BNP) marks on the barrel indicate. Other marks are also part of the British proofing process to release the gun for commercial sale.

Guy is right. It started life as a British Service Revolver (BSR) but the .38 S&W round is pretty anemic so these sold better once converted to .38 Special even though it can create relatively minor problems. A search yields lots of prior threads about these.

Parker-Hale certainly performed higher quality conversions than many other outfits. The one thing I see with this one that's anomalous would be the well-worn standard Victory grips where I'd expect nicer checkered replacements. You might remove them and see if the right panel is stamped with a number that matches the serial number on the butt.

The P-H BSR conversions show good craftsmanship and usually have fairly nice fully checkered wood grips. Many of the BSR conversions done in the USA are somewhat crude. No real comparison between the two.

Default Grips

These are the grips that it had but I got the original ones and the lanyard loop from the S&W Historical group.

Default I'll keep it as a full conversion.

I thought someone had added the grips later so I replaced with original ones. Now that I know they should be on there I'll keep it that way. Thanks for the help.

If the two letters on either side of the crossed swords are OB, it was proved in 1963.

SRBashmam:

Your serial number indicates that your revolver likely shipped from the factory in the July to September, 1944 time frame.

HTH.

Regards,
Charlie

I hope this won't dampen your enthusiasm/interest, and if you have this as a collectible, it won't make any difference; but the barrel of this gun was made for a .361" bullet (if I recall correctly)---and then the chambers were modified such to accept cartridges with .357" projectiles. I imagine the accuracy will suffer. Actually, I know it will suffer---how much remains to be seen; and your expectations will determine how much you care.

.358 lead bullets work just fine in BSRs.
