Grips Vs Gun?
Another addition to the stable, 5" M&P nickel circa late 1947?
Stag grips that have been on it for some time.
I'm thinking 1/2 value gun, 1/2 value grips?
Or??
I kinda just wanted the grips, but I'm warming to the gun too, we'll see when it gets here!
Thanks!

The stocks are great and I would be lying if I said I never bought a gun just for the grips.
I think I understand your question and I would probably split the value at 66% gun 33% grips

I would have bought it for those grips...wouldn't be the first time. Once I did it just for the holster. Nice find.

I too, have bought several guns for the grips or holster that was included. Nothing wrong with that. Most of the time, I bought the gun for fair value, and got the 'accessories' for free.

Bought this one for the grips and got a heckuva deal. I guess everyone thought it had a RB conversion of the frame. Turned out to be a State Department DSS gun.
Got this sweet nickel 13-1 for a pittance and the icing on the cake was the vintage T-grip.

Can't say that I have ever bought one just to get the grips, but if I were to even consider doing that, those grips would tempt me to make such a purchase.
For my money, those are about as good as vintage stags get!

It very likely shipped in May, 1947. There were some nickel units in that serial range.

As well as those grips fit that gun, it would be hard for me to separate them. They look as if they've spent many years together. The grips surely wouldn't fit any other gun near that well.

So have we all----or will----sooner or later! That's because we're all wacky---a little or a lot----or completely around the bend!
I only did it once----for some drop-dead gorgeous Roper Thumb Rest Targets on an equally drop-dead gorgeous pre-war Outdoorsman---the big one. But it was for a good cause-----I needed that gun, and believe it or not I paid a fair price for the gun---and the grips came right along with it. I was dumbfounded------but I didn't even think about trying to talk him out of it!!

To paraphrase Winston Churchill: The outside of a 5" K Frame with stag stocks is good for the inside of a man.

Those are definitely some gorgeous high end sambar !!
I still have two "free" Ruger Single actions from 17-18 years ago thanks to sambar stag grips. I was able to "locate" some suitable replacement grips from elk antler . I had several more "free" Colts revolvers (sambar grips) I also bought during that time but have since sold them. Sambar stag grips been berry berry gude to me

Sometimes, the stars align, the karma kicks in or whatever life-force you follow. Great catch with those grips!!
Sometimes you find a great combination. Mine was a birth-year M27(no-dash) 5" wrapped in "Cokes". Somebody had good taste to keep them together. Am I to upset the universe and change them??
The O.P.'s ju-ju is better than I possess though. When I spot something out ahead at a show, they usually turn ot to be franzite, ivorex or just plain plastic. Though I did have an original set of Catalin SAA grips in my hands once. Left them. Won't make that mistake again,,,,,

That is one beautiful combination and I would probably letter the gun just to see where it went. Reminds me of a Wolf and Klar minus the steer head.
We all buy guns for different reasons. I have purchased several just because they had multiple 5's in the serial number which is my lucky number. Like I needed another reason.......
